Bruschi set to return
Linebacker Tedy Bruschi isn’t ready to retire just yet.
Bruschi and the Patriots have agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract, ensuring that the fan favorite will return for his 13th season with the club, according to a league source.
Bruschi, who turns 35 in June, started all 16 regular-season games and all three playoff contests. He led the Patriots in tackles during the regular season (99), as well as solo tackles (69).
In the days leading up to the Super Bowl, Bruschi said: "After every season I sort of reassess things. I look at people who put it off to this offseason already like coaches Tony Dungy and Mike Holmgren. What they do is they sit back. They sort of reassess and make decisions with their families. That’s what I’ll do.”
Bruschi was voted as a defensive captain by his teammates in 2007.

Great to have him back, but the Pats need several young, fast 'backers. Not sure where or how they can get them.
YES!!!!!!
Thank You Teddy
Thank freakin God!!
Atta Boy Teddy
Thank you Teddy! You are a class act and one of the key players that makes up the heart of this team!
Tedy has long been one of the classiest and hardest working players in the NFL. I couldn't see him playing elsewhere and I'm glad that he isn't ready to retire yet. The Pats still need help at LB but I'm glad that Bruschi will be around to ease the transition.
Well as a Pats fan starved for some of the positive news, I think this is pretty fantastic news. Sure Moss may have a big impact with his hoped for announcement but I think this Vet still has more than enough to give this team and I hope this team has a heck of a season coming up to give to him and us as well. Welcome Back Tedy!
Full Tilt - Full Time
Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!
BREWWWWWWW!!! Nice to have you back for another season!
oH YEAH!
Welcome back Teddy, I sure hope they get you some large, fast company.
And we keep getting older and older....
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love Tedi, love how he has given the pats the hometown discount throughout his career, but wish he would retire for the sake of his health and the sake of his family. This is from an outsider looking in, obviously he discussed this with his family, its just that stroke has me nervous and being a father to his kids is more important than another few million on top of all the money he already has.
Teddi as a day 1 fan of Mount Bruskiiii I am super happy you are coming back for your leadership, attidude, and values toward the game .....my hope is we can pick up another youngster bruskiiii you can mentor and become a bruskiiii for the this year and beyond... Go Teddy
Matt - I agree. This team is old. Bruschi may be a great guy, but is he really that good for the team at this point?
I think ACon said it best but I would like to add that Tedy Bruschi has truly risked his life to keep working hard to be the best. God Bless you Tedy. Go Pats.
Yes, I love Tedy you are getting more and more respected each day.
Thank you to you and your family for helping us shoot for another super bowl next year
I like the fact that he's back with the team, but I hope BB sticks with his mantra of "everybody has to compete for a job, there are no guarantees." If someone out-competes Tedy in camp, then Tedy should be benched. Personally, I'd like to see him retire and pull a Don Davis-like move by coming back as a coach. His value to the team at this point is more in his knowledge than in his playing ability.
Yeah, he's old and past his prime, but we need linebackers. Don't know if Seau's going to retire. Colvin's gone. There isn't much on the roster past Vrabel and Thomas. Bruschi can still play a bit. I think it's a good move. Hopefully we can add some young depth in the coming months.
he needs to start juicing up or somthing cuz he is gettin slower and smaller not bigger and faster....
THANK YOU TEDY! You are the inspiration to this team and the New England fan base. You are what being New England Patriot is all about! I wasn't ready to see you retire just yet!
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Thanks Tedy, oh by the way you looked really good in that last drive against the Giants!!
While I do agree that the PATS have to get some youth on defense I am glad to see Tedy coming back. This guy is a class act all the way and would be a great mentor to anyone they pick up.
LOVE YOU TB!!! So glad you're coming back.
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
Music to my ears! Tedy is the heart and soul of the Patriots D! I'm glad he's going to be with the Pats for at least another year.
Finally something positive (besides Kevin Faulk)
PATRIOTS 2007 18-1
PATRIOTS 2008 22-0 ........PERFECT SEASON +1 B*TCHES!!
Finally...some good news for the Pats!!! I hope we get some good players in the draft or some reliable free agents... I hope we keep the team in tact...GO PATS!!!!
Great news about Tedy--but hoping Randy Moss signs too--I keep telling my 12 year old--huge pats fan--
if he does sign again---he's a true team player---
if he doesn't---he's only a money man!!!
Go Pats!!!
And all is well again! Thanks Tedy for bringing back the heart and soul again!
Being a Brit living in a very damp but good olde blighty, I never miss a Patriot game when given the chance. I am soooooooooo pleased that Tedy is back as he has so much to offer this team both on and off the field. I don't see him leaving the game one bit and think he would make an excellent defensive coach!!!
Thanks Tedy - you are the bees knees!!!
Go Patriots!!
I find it hillarious that everyone on here was celebrating the Colvin release as a "smart business move" and now are celebrating the multi-year contract of a 35 year old linebacker clearly on the downside of his career as terrific move because he is a fan favorite and great inspiration. Lets stay consistent people.
Thanks tedy we need ya bud!!!!
Matt - where in the article does it say that Bruschi's contract is multi-year? Let's stay accurate before we criticize...
Great to have you back Tedy! Hopefully the coaches will get you some help in the middle so you can retire a champion next spring!
I know that I weighed in yesterday and most of the comments on here are positive but it is apparent that some people posting here and on the other thread aren't watching the games. How could the team be better off with him gone or coaching like Don Davis? Remember Monty Beisel and Chad Brown while Tedy was out in '05? Who else do we have at MLB? He has slown down but he still led the team in tackles!!!! He's not the Bru of '04 but he can still play. Bill wouldn't have a rookie/young MLB calling the defensive plays next season (if he even drafts one) and other guys have been HORRIBLE at doing it during his absences. This isn't a sentimental move, it makes football sense for him to be around for at least another season.
