Faulk found with marijuana
Patriots running back Kevin Faulk has been charged with marijuana possession after he was found with four hand-rolled cigars filled with the illegal substance while attending a concert in his home state of Louisiana, Capt. John Babin of the Lafayette (La.) Metro Narcotics Task Force said today.
Faulk, who has played nine seasons in the NFL, all with the Patriots, was issued a citation after he was found with marijuana while attending a Lil Wayne rap concert last Friday night at the Cajundome in Lafayette.
Faulk, 31, was not taken into custody, but as part of the citation agreed to appear in court to face the charge of simple possession of marijuana. No court date has been established yet.
Faulk is the second Patriots player to be cited for marijuana possession this off-season.
Two days after the Patriots' stunning 17-14 upset loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, reserve defensive back and special teams contributor Willie Andrews was caught in Lowell with three bags of marijuana on Feb. 5. Andrews pled not guilty to charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and is due back in court on March 18 for a pre-trial conference.
According to Babin, Faulk was with friends and on his way to a suite at the Cajundome when he was searched in the administration office of the building by an in uniform, off-duty Lafayette Parish Sheriff's deputy who was providing security for the event.
"It wasn't a random search, everybody going into the building was searched that night," said Babin.
Babin said that Faulk was very cooperative.
A phone call to Faulk's representative, Raymond Brothers, has not been returned.
"We're aware of the report, but we don't have any additional comment at this time," Patriots spokesman Stacey James said.
The incident was first reported by KATC-TV in Louisiana.
Faulk was named a team captain for the first time in his career this season. The Patriots' all-time leader in receptions by a running back with 323, he is the team's top option out of the backfield in passing situations and third-down sets. He had 47 catches for 383 yards and a touchdown this season and added 62 rushes for 265 yards as the Patriots went 18-1, including the playoffs.
His lone touchdown reception came against the Indianapolis Colts and capped the Patriots memorable comeback from a 20-10 deficit to seize a 24-20 victory. Faulk squeezed into the end zone on a 13-yard catch-and-run with 3:15 remaining against the Colts.
Babin said that Faulk was not a specific target, but said that the narcotics task force does usually have a heavier presence at events at the Cajundome where they feel drugs may be present. They work those events undercover, although it was an in-uniform deputy who caught Faulk.
Marijuana was found on Lil Wayne's tour bus in both New York, last July, and in Arizona earlier this year.
"It's a large venue in town where events are held throughout the year and based on the type of event and whether we would think there would be a narcotics presence we would work it undercover," said Babin. "Kevin just happened to have marijuana."

This is just embrassing.
He is a team captain and supposed to be a leader on this team.
I thought he was one of the smarter players on this team.
Embarassing.
Does he get a suspension from Goddell for this ? You know Goddell is after the Patriots every chance he gets
What the heck is going on with this team ?
After today's event who is going to be left ?
It really belonged to Ty Law's cousin.
You've got to wonder about the sense of a guy who would not recognize all customers are being searched and walk away form the line instead. Of course one could question his sense at carrying weed to a public event.
This is just what we need.
If it's good enough for the future President of the US (Sen Obama) then it should be okay for the rest of us.
Why is this a crime or big deal? I bet somewhere a NFL player was hammered that night, yelling slurs (Hello, Brady Quinn!), and was sloppy drunk, while Faulk just wanted to relax and take in some music.
Alcohol is a far worse drug.
I really don't see what the big deal is.
That's putting it bluntly
legalize it
so what
Oh please give me a break? This country is unbelievable! My, my smoking marijuana, wowee what a crime let's put 'em in jail. Yeah we taxpayers don't mind paying someone's living bill for being in prison for practically nothing! When will people's eyes OPEN up and see this? Gee how many people had drinks at this venue??? I wonder how many drove drunk too? But I bet you anything the odds of 1 person getting either caught or even asked to pull over is most likely nil. But torch up a joint and you are going to jail! Kill someone though will under the infulence of alcohol and then the law will take a look at you and then you may not even end up in prison. All depends on the circumstances!
And this a big deal? Liquor certainly causes much more harm than marijuana, but the liquor and tobacco lobbyists don't want you to know that. We're in need of marijuana reform laws. and I don't even use the stuff!
meaningless
This team is falling apart.
Granted, the Pats are in the spotlight because they are top dog.
But between Spygate, the Randy Moss battery allegations, Tom Brady's baby out of wedlock, and now Kevin Faulk's marajuana bust - this is getting to be a tough year for Pat fans. The days of cutting Christian Peter seem to be over in New England. And the players don't seem to be responding well to the media putting them under the microscope.
My friend who is a Colt fan is becoming a "Moral" authority, and I am getting tired of him sending the latest "Moral" column about the Pats and their lack of Morality.
I just tell him to tell Peyton to go make another commerical.
And the defense is starting to look like a rebuiding project. At least the D-Line is solid with Seymour, Green, Wilfork, and Warren. LB's look good on the outside with Vrabel and Thomas. We need inside likebacker help and cornerback help.
It is always interesting to see how the pieces come together during the offseason.
What the FAULK!?!
think i'll go smoke some right now while i watch my 3 games to glory dvds.
I've been to three concerts this year and smoked dope at all of them. The key is don't get caught. I've been smoking pot at shows since the late sixties. Woop de damn doo. Your crime Kevin was getting caught not smoking pot!
this means nothing. faulk was going to a concert and doing what a lot of people do at concerts...just trying to relax. If this were during the season then it would be a little bit different...
i dont see what the big deal is at all. its just weed. no harm done.
No big deal. Let it go people.
As I have reported to Mr. Reiss heres what really happened,
I can just feel it in my JOINTS!
Belichek sent a member of the staff to tape the walkthrough to the suites and accidentally got caught with tape of "Mr. F"with the illegal contraband. The NFL got wind of these tapes and now "Mr F, lil Wayne, and Grand Rapper B" (as the team calls Bill) are having to Rap their way out of another scandal involving illegal tapings! Say it ain't so "Grand Rapper B". We will believe anything you say! Heck I'm not convinced we lost the Super Bowl yet!
HA
Whatya think of this theory? I think I am on to something here. I will report back as findings go forward.
i hope it was some good herb - yah man jamaica man
3 points while i expect more of someone like kevin faulk at least he wasn't caught with weed with fighting his pitbulls. also fans need to calm down because its a long way from here back to the superbowl. let off season play itself out. and lastly to the person talking about obama, our current president admitted to snorting coke and being an alcoholic. mission accomplished, outing cia agents, hurricane katrina. maybe bush would of done a better job if he was high
Bringing a joint(s) into a concert must be new to Faulk.....Everyone and his brother knows you put it in your shoe. Anyway, no harm done.
jeff,
get your facts straight. GWB admits to being "young and irresponsible" which included lots of drinking. in his book, BO admits to using weed and coke. The GWB allegation about snorting coke is like the Matt Walsh taping the SB walkthru story. . . someone threw it out there to see what would stick. People talk about it as if it were true when it is simply another allegation without any proof.
Alcohol, tobacco and GW are much more harmful than weed, music and Barack Obama. Kevin Faulk plays his arse off for us...let him enjoy his offseason.
Racial / celebrity profiling. He was already inside... This is BS.
pats are a bad team. no wonder no one likes them.
