Free agent analysis
ANALYSIS
Last year, the Patriots jumped out early in free agency, consummating deals with LB Adalius Thomas (Ravens), RB Sammy Morris (Dolphins) and TE Kyle Brady (Jaguars) on the opening weekend.
This year's approach, at least early on, figures to have more of an in-house feel to it.
As the Patriots prepare for the start of free agency at midnight tonight, they will likely be focusing less on what becomes available on the open market, and more on keeping some key pieces intact.
A successful free-agent period would include the re-signing of WR Randy Moss. Ditto for WRs Kelley Washington and Jabar Gaffney, both of whom were consistent producers on special teams and offense, respectively. CB Randall Gay is also part of that mix. On the flip side, CB Asante Samuel and S Eugene Wilson appear set to test the market, and will likely be elsewhere in 2008.
So while the Patriots figure to meet with some free agents from other clubs, it would be a surprise if the action is as immediate as it was in 2007. Their first course of business projects to be with the players they know best -- their own.

I don't see any mention of Donte Stallworth. What's his status?
