Hobbs has torn labrum repaired
The Boston Globe's Christopher L. Gasper reports today that Patriots cornerback Ellis Hobbs played in Super Bowl XLII with a torn labrum, in addition to chronic groin pain.
Hobbs underwent shoulder surgery Feb. 12, the report states. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama.

can you get a sore groin from getting your butt kicked all season?
Maybe he got his butt kicked all season because of the sore groin and torn labrum?
People put WAY too much blame on Hobbs. He played hurt and he plays with alot of heart and emotion. I'm saying he's the best corner or even a great corner, but give the guy some slack. The super bowl touchdown...asante would have given that one up too. Pats had an all out blitz. Honestly, whose gunna win a jump ball with one on one coverage: Burress vs Samuel/Hobbs?
Honestly, I'd have Hobbs over alot of the corners in the league...granted though, it's a postion the team needs to address in offseason
When will McDaniels get fired?
the sorriest groin in the league
The Hobbs detractors don't know football. They think they do but they don't. He was doing his best to help his teammates and I give him his due for his efforts. He is a bona fide NFL CB and he'll get even better.
I think Ellis Hobbs gets a bad rap and while I realize he's not the biggest corner out there, he's great for what the Patriots need. Everyone wants the Patriots to go out and get a big corner and while that sounds great on paper, it's not necessarily the ideal way to go. Considering that there are no "big" receivers in our division, but rather they are mostly quick and speed type guys.
We have no TOs or Plaxicos in our division, but we do have worry about Lee Evans and Laveranues Coles, both of whom are under 6 feet tall. Therefore, we really need those smaller type corners that can stay with a quicker receiver because when it comes to players in general, you should always worry about what's in your division first and figure the rest out later.
Though it was not a story per se... I find it absolutely remarkable that no thought was given as to consider whether Josh McDaniels would gain the maturity to guide the Patriots to their next Superbowl, as the OC.
How is it possible that NO one failed to see that he did not grasp the realities on the field. Again and again the problems were glaringly apparent. Instead, myriad insightful fans were ignored through the various fan boards attempting to express their concerns.
The Film does not lie, Josh McDaniels has no control of the offense! All he has is "the best seat in the house." To those of you who have read these links I must seem repetitive, so... I shall express my true sentiment , through the following quote," You know Johnny, in these perilous times almost anyone can handle a momentary crisis, demonstrate a moment of brilliance or hold another with intrigue. But it is that toughness required of the day to day living out there on the range which is entirely different from life back on the Bar 20 , and that ultimately is our REAL challenge." " Hopalong Cassidy Heart of the West 1936"
Hobbs has been the weakest link in the secondary for two years. He is better suited for inside nickel. While he may have been hurt, his coverage skills are, at best, pitiful, and he is beaten, one on one, more often than not.
And, because of that, he either gets called for pass interference, sometimes justified, sometimes not, because he has to recover and make contact.
Hard nosed player, but not a good corner for today's NFL's taller, and faster receivers.
The bottom line is that you so-called Patriots fans have no clue about Ellis Hobbs. Ellis Hobbs has busted his butt since he got to New England. Last year, he played with a broken arm and this year he played with a torn labrum and messed up groin. Ellis was left on an island on the final play of the Super Bowl. We forget his 108 yard kickoff return or him locking down Reggie Wayne in the 2006 AFC Championship Game. It took Asante 4 years to develop into the corner he is today, and if it wasn't for Ellis' short stature I will go on record is saying the guy has greater potential than Asante ever did! I cannot wait to see Ellis continue to develop! I love the guy and am happy to have a gutty athlete such as himself on my team! Any of you that rip him, just don't get football! Get healthy and see you on the field in 2008!

Ummm wasn't McDaniels the OC of the greatest offense of our time or any time?
For Jeffrey M.Kay.
I agree completely with your assessment of McDaniels. He is green inexperienced, and way too stubborn. He had the horses and still, he can not grasp the adjustments, and the changes needed fast enough to make a difference. He had the opportunities in the 2nd quarter, with a 7-3 lead, to put the game away. Two consecutive three and outs in the 2nd quarter and then on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter, still leading 7-3, he blew it again. He finally caught on midway through the 4th quarter, but then, then the score was still close, and instead of having the comfortable lead, he kept the Giants in the game.
IMO, the fact that Hobbs was forced to play with those injuries says more about our lack of talented depth at CB, than anything it says about Hobbs. Let's not forget that Randall Gay, our #3 CB, was a FA. He (Gay) is a decent STs and nickel back; but he's not an adequate true backup for the outside CB position. If he were, he'd have started in the SB, rather than the injured Hobbs.
Personally, I agree with those who have said that, while Hobbs is not a great CB, he's a better than average starter at that very tough position. With Samuel likely gone in FA, we need to try to get 2 quality CBs during the off-season: a very good starter to replace Samuel; and a player of at least average ability as a backup for the outside.
his mouth obviously still works.
hobbs is too short to cover THE wr in THE game. we need corners asap. im still depressed! hobbs is the weakest link. i would have much rather have put anyone else on plax..gay, rodney, anyone else!
dudes played hurt the past two years, cut him some slack

Get real. Let's see YOU do better.

He sure did a LOT wrong. The Pats were 16-0.
