Patriots release TE Kyle Brady

Posted by Christopher L. Gasper, Globe Staff February 29, 2008 06:59 PM

The Patriots have announced that they've released tight end Kyle Brady. The 36-year-old, who signed with New England last offseason, is a 13-year NFL veteran.

Brady's release is likely tied to a shoulder injury that was likely to affect his availability for training camp.

Last season, he caught nine passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns while playing in 14 games with nine starts for New England. But his best work came blocking. His contributions in the running game helped the Patriots finish the season averaging 4.10 yards per rush, the team’s best total since 1985.

The 6-foot-6-inch, 280-pound tight end has played in 197 career games with 175 starts and has caught 343 passes for 3,519 yards (10.3 avg.) and 25 touchdowns.

The team also officially announced it had re-signed linebacker Tedy Bruschi, long-snapper Lonie Paxton and wide receiver Kelley Washington.

  1. So this is how it ends? Not with a bang, but with a whimper... No Asante, No Randy, and then the Pats use their first round pick on a Tight End.... sigh.

  1. what a bunch of whiners you guys are. Asante Samuel went for big money, which everyone said he would, plus his style fits with n agressive attacking defense tha he can now go back and jup routes and take chances that he had a hard time doing this year. Kyle Brady is old, hurt and making too much money. Colvin is hurt and making too much. Stallworth did not do much last year either. Give it a rest, we are 2 days into free agency and you crybabies are complaining already. Stay home and watch the game on tv iike the rest of the world and the tickt prices aren't an issue.

  1. i concur, tdog. since when does everyone think we're better at running a pro football team than the patriots are...just let them do what they need to do (an increase in ticket prices gives the orginazation more money but doesn't mean they get more cap space to play with). the patriots never overpay for people and the team is more important than the individual...this will never change...i don't know why people want the pats to overpay for players...so they can be just like the rest of the league (and not be as good as they have been)?
