Pats sign T.J. Slaughter

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff February 11, 2008 07:51 PM

In a minor move, the Patriots signed free-agent LB T.J. Slaughter to a contract today.

The 30-year-old Slaughter, who was a teammate of Patriots linebacker Adalius Thomas at Southern Mississippi, did not play in the 2007 season. He has suited up for the Jaguars (2000-2003), Packers (2003), Ravens (2003-2004), Saints (2005) and 49ers (2006).

Slaughter projects as an inside linebacker in the Patriots' 3-4 alignment, and at this point, would likely be vying for a backup spot.

Tedy Bruschi and Junior Seau finished the season as starters at inside linebacker. Both were in the final year of their contracts. The addition of Slaughter should not impact the potential returns of Bruschi and Seau.

  1. Some younger legs during the latter part of games. Bruschi and Seau was nowhere to be seen on the 4th and inches play againts the Jints in SB42! A stop would have been awesome. I hate that game. I live 5 miles from Meadowlands and my boys have been giving me the business!

  1. I feel that T.J. Slaughter is underestimated as a linebacker. He hits solid hard and takes pride in his career as an NFL player. Very few players in the NFL pride themselves as much a Mr. T.J. Slaughter.
He is a class act and should be noticed more and not scrutinized for his past.

Mr. Slaughter will definitely be a crucial instrument in the Patriots future.

Way to Go T.J. Go get em and make us all proud!!!!

  1. IT WAS DEFINITELY A GREAT SIGNING.

T.J. packs a big hit and doesn't hold back when playing on the field. He is determined, great character and loves a challenge. I feel he will be a great asset to the Patriots.

Mr. Slaughter also brings stamina and savy to the game. A veteran he is, but remember a hard hitting, non stop human machine. Very dedicated and will stop at nothing to make every game exciting.

Go get em T.J. were all proud of you!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. T.J. is my hero! I actually met him in person and he hired me to install his alarm. He has this multi-million dollar home and his taste in furniture is second to non. I admire a man with such good taste that can be a gentleman in his home and a true athlete on the field.

I am so happy that the NFL finally screwed their head on straight and took a good look at T.J. and his heart for the game of football.

Best decision to draft T.J. Slaughter

  1. T.J. aka. (The Nasty Dawg) is ready for the 2008 season. New England will definetely be happy that they have signed him. He plays like a caged lion, when he hits you, you know youve been hit. Watch him get loose this year.
