Gay to meet with Saints

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff February 29, 2008 12:03 PM

CB Randall Gay will make his first free agent visit on Saturday, as he is scheduled to be hosted by the Saints. A native of Brusly, La., Gay played in college at Louisiana State, so a potential signing in New Orleans would be a homecoming.

Gay has also had conversations with other clubs, including Tampa Bay, Detroit, Seattle and Atlanta.

  1. Losing Gay would hurt the Patriots more than most of you are willing to admit. With Asante gone, Gay moves up the depth chart. Not ideal, maybe, but better than what's available (with the exception of Sheppard and Law). Our DB lineup is quite thin. If Gay goes, then where do we pick up a replacement? The free agent crop is also thin at DB, and drafting one who will contribute immediately is unlikely. Obviously the Patriots shouldn't break the bank to keep the guy, but I'm still slightly concerned about the ramifications of his departure.

  1. my money is that he comes home to louisiana. He should be signed by the saints. I think players for the patriots are not wanting to be associated with the spygate situation any longer and this is a good time to get out! Moss will be next
