Randy Moss in focus
Randy Moss and his potential future in New England is examimed in this piece by ESPN.com's Mike Sando.
Do the Patriots put the franchise tag on Moss? Do they tag him and still work toward a long-term deal? Do they let him go?
All the avenues are examined in the story, which highlights one of the top offseason questions facing the Patriots.

I don't see why everyone thinks the Patriots plan is broken. They were a dropped pass of beating the Colts in the playoffs and going to the Super Bowl last year. They had 4 or 5 plays that could have won this one, but the bounces didn't go right.
That's not to say that improvements can't be made, but I think the wide receivers have been upgraded since Branch left. The problem, if you really want to look for one, is that the defense isn't as good as it was during the Super Bowls. Bruschi and Harrison are getting older. Eugene Wilson is MIA. Seymour seemed to spend much of the season coming back from injury. Colvin wasn't around to help the linebackers.
Let's not forget that very few professional teams in the major sports have had better than a .947 winning percentage.
what about trading randy moss for chad johnson?
Can't trade someone who isn't under contract...
Could they get Moss for less than the franchise tag cost, (9 million plus?) What's the plan for keeping DBs from disrupting his rhythm? 3 wide same side? Motion? Chucking him hard worked, everyone will do that next year.
What about both RM and Chad Johnson? Would they both take a discount? Not likely How much for Johnson alone?
Finally, at what cost to the defense?
Clueless,
You must be a Bengals fan!
The author of that article fails to fully comprehend the situation. Having Moss opens up a lot of options for the offense that we otherwise never would have. We become an offensive juggernaut (odd SB performance aside). Yes, the Pats have issues to address, and will do so. However if they gain the ability to sign MOss at a reasonable price they should do so without hesitation. With another year in the system Randy will be even more effective...even more of a threat. We can do that while addressing needs on defense, including replacing the overrated and self-important Samuels, as well as Hobbs.
Can't trade a player that is no longer under contract...
Randy is better than Chad Johnson for one...
Agree with poster #1, the defense past the front line is sub-par and needs a lot of changes. Bruschi and Seau...at least one will not be back...possibly both and deservedly so...they are just too small and slow at this point in their career.
Rodney is not the same as well, but I am guessing we need him back just to fill the hole.
Asante will be gone, so there is a need there. #7 pick must be used on ILB
Absolutely keep Randy Moss, I want a repeat of this season except with a better ending!
Agree with PJM - you can't trade without a contract.
