It my understanding that the eagles are trying to send Lito Shepard and a pick to the Cardinals for Fitzgerald.....

Samuels can get gone! I don't think I am out of line, even wothout having seen the SB game tape, but you can bet Bill saw it. He went for the pick on Tyree's TD and wiffed! And we all know how he dropped the game clinching INT with a minute or so left. Yes, he has made some key plays over the years, but he lost a lot of his value last year to me.

If I were the Eagles I would be trying that, too. Depends upon the pick.

One game does not say he lost value over the whole season, he played great, EVEN THOUGH he missed training camp due to a contract dispute, imagine him with training camp. The Eagles secondary would be much improved, because as good as Lito is, he is very injury-prone and the Eagles need more players that will cause turnovers and that is exactly what Samuels is. So please don't judge Samuels value on the Superbowl game with plays that could go either way in whether he shouldve made them or not, there were 5 Patriots that had a shot of an INT or blocking the Tyree pass, it doesn't mean their all not good, thats ludicrous.

Who's gonna play cornerback for the pats? Hobbs? We all know how that worked out! Samuel has won more games than he's lost! Offseason musts: Randy Moss and Asante Samuel!

eagles need to kick samuels outta here, no one needs him. We did fine, we need to concentrate on our quarter back problem, and Dawkins, Sheppard is awesome, and he makes good plays consistently. Also, I don't like the patriots and don't want their sloppy seconds.

The fact of the matter is Samuel is a good player but he is certainly not a shutdown player. He missed a lot of plays during the year. An int is just one play and 6 or 8 in a year doesn't make one a super player. If gets the money that is being talked about the team that signs him is overpaying by far.

Larry Fitz is supposed to get something like $30 mil over the next 2 years. The Birds ain't gonna do that.

I hope Samuel signs with Philly - freeing them up to send Lito Sheppard to the Patriots!

The only problem the eagles had last year was our quarterback and our boy Dawkins, Dawkins is going to be perfect for this comin season and i love mcnabb but he can step down, he's not producing when necessary. This will be a great addition to the Eagles. A bit costly, but still a great addition.

This either gives us the best Def. backfield in the league or a lot of flexibility. Either Lito and Asante at the corners with Sheldon Brown moving from corner to safety with hall of famer - Dawkins.

Or gives us a solid backfield with the flexibility to trade Lito for a WR. Maybe Fitzgerald?

The Eagles are okay. The Eagles looked like they were on the desent but, since they're getting samuel he may lead them to a few playoff games. The cause of the playoff games would mean more money and next year we can focus on offense when we can get free agents. It was a good contract but eagles fans if you think this is going to lead to another championship run it's not. That won't be for another few years. But expect for a good season, hope asaunte is as good as they say. UNLIKE JAVON KEARSE!!!!!

Is everyone insane here? We almost beat the Pats without our franchise quarterback and if it were not for some ill-advised throws by Feely, we would have won. The Patriots were lucky down the stretch in every game but the last. As for the Eagles, did all of you miss the last three games of the season where Mcnabb was finally back to his former self? The Eagles will definately be going to the playoffs this year . Neither the Giants this year or the Steelers a couple of years ago were all that good and if both of them could win the big game, than it is definately not out of the question for the Eagles to win this year.

Bottom line. Eagles get a solid player who is not injury prone. I would love to keep Shepard and move Brown to safety as the heir apparent to Dawkins. Shepard needs to stop complaining about his contract, he signed it and it was a good deal for him as an unproven player at the time. Eagles can now use the first rounder on DE to go opposite Cole or OT to replace THomas or Runyan.

the facts are this gives the eagles the ability to move an injury proaned corner or a corner who never lived up to his second round draft pick. Couple that with what they have left, and the draft and the eagles are making a statement. They need a defensive end who can pass rush and the draft is stacked with those. They need a wide reciver and hey now they have an expendable pro-bowl calibur corner to trade. If the eagles were so horrible they would not have won three straight and come up two minuets shy of beating the pats. The facts are the eagles lost 5 games by less then 7 points. a couple injuries don't happen a couple calls go the other way and your looking at the eagles in the super bowl because the eagls were on both occassions one good play away from beating the new jersey giants.

I would love to see eagles keep lito with samuels and sign jevon walker who was releasesed today. But if not the fitzgerald trade or even Roy Williams would be perfect. and lets hope and wish for Gabriel Wilson. I like lito more than sheldon but lito gets hurt too much so one has to go. who that is to be is a big question.

First of all, the Eagles DID need another RELIABLE probowl-caliber corner, they got that with Assante. Great Move!! Now they should go for the kill with Randy Moss. Or if not, Fitzgerald would be even better! But hopefully they wont trade Lito, they can move him to right corner and move hard-hitting Sheldon Brown to free safety alongside Dawkins. Then draft a defensive end or a speedy returner with that 19th overall pick. The eagle would be as complete as any team with no weekness. Remember, the Eagles last year lost about four or five games that they should of won, and McNabb was not back to full health untill the end of the season. This year the Eagle will once again domminate the most competetive division in the NFL. They will be back with a vengence, ready to seal the deal this time around.

In the NFL these days you can never have to many good corners especially with these good spread offense teams. The Eagles alone last year had 11 interceptions Asante had 10 himself and led the league the last 2 years in picks clearly he was the most highly regarded free agent all the birds need to do now is grab Randy Moss and if they pull that off think what Donovan can do with Westbrook, L.J. Smith, Kevin Curtis, Reggie Brown and Randy Moss. If the Moss deal cant be done you must make a trade to get a playmaker like an unhappy Chad Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald. With the 19th pick in the 1st round the Eagles should trade up to try and maybe get a Chris Long to replace the hole of Jevon Kearse who never lived up to his hype with his injuries, overall the Eagles need a few pieces to get to the promise land which isnt far at all in 2007 the Eagles played with A.J. Feely after Mcnabb went down while he was having an all-pro year so dont count the Eagles out look at the Giants who won it The NFC is weak the only thing the birds need to wory about is keeping Moss away from Dallas and New England. I would rather go with Fitzgerald considering Moss all but disappears in the playoffs... Granted Moss is a great player, but he is also injury prone and his true personality has been in hiding to ensure a payday this offseason. I like the moves the Birds are making here, reminds me of what they did to get to the superbowl last go around.

Samuel is a good pick up. Contract isnt so bad. Many have said that the eagles got a better deal than expected considering nate clemens contract last year. McNabb will be strong this year. It was unreasonable to expect the normal McNabb last year at all. The last three games were just an indication of what he can do. I'm glad it worked out that way to get some heat off of him. He doesnt need more off field drama; wondering if Philly willl want him back. Lets let him get back to his game. B. Miller - you make no strong points. You're an idiot. If we can pull a Fitz from AZ or another comparable receiver, then we will be right in the mix. there are a lot of idiots in here....sheldon brown isnt a bad corner in fact he's pretty solid and if you just keep lito sheppard and try to sign javon walker to add another playmaker on offense and keep all of their picks....then they could package together some of those picks and make some moves in the draft to get the players that they really want which number one should be jake long to play under william thomas for a year and eventually replace him that would almost ensure that the eagles will make it to the playoffs and return to dominence for the next couple of years...but thats just what i think

i like what the eagles are doing so far in the free agency market, but we should also focus on the offensive line because mcnabb took a beating last year ,(especially that game against new york), and also feeley too.. i agree what the guy from message #46 said. we should go after an offensive lineman in the draft because runyan is getting up there and thomas was there since '96. that guy should be jake long; but mel kuyper said kansas city might take him. we should make a deal with the chiefs before the draft starts.

I don't think we should move Lito. He doesn't want to leave (he would just like to have more money), but he is a great corner, and the combo of him, sheldon, dawk, asante, and hopefully we can add a good SS, gives us what is probably the most lethal secondary in the NFL. well the only problem with sheldon brown being moved to safety is that i really dont think he is a guy who can come up and be the eighth man in the box i may be crazy but usually you dont send a corner to be that "fourth linebacker" and i think that j.r. might actually give mikell or considine a run for their money to be honest but i think the eagles will add another safety in free agency like that one from st. louis
