Enough of Gay.... give me something on someone who is either coming to the pats or staying with them.
get rid of hobbs!
Gay played with the Pats for four years and missed 40% of the games (15/5/3/16) . He was the starting CB in the playoffs and Super Bowl as a rookie but could not beat out Ellis "Toast" Hobbs as a starter this past year.
A source on PFT says Gay is hoping to command a five-year deal in the range of $15 to $25 million in total money. How ridiculous.
Maybe he can pull a David Givens who signed as a UFA two years ago for $24M /5yrs but only played 5 games in 2 years before being cut.
Losing Gay would hurt the Patriots more than most of you are willing to admit. With Asante gone, Gay moves up the depth chart. Not ideal, maybe, but better than what's available (with the exception of Sheppard and Law). Our DB lineup is quite thin. If Gay goes, then where do we pick up a replacement? The free agent crop is also thin at DB, and drafting one who will contribute immediately is unlikely. Obviously the Patriots shouldn't break the bank to keep the guy, but I'm still slightly concerned about the ramifications of his departure.
