Welcome to the Super Bowl

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff February 3, 2008 01:18 PM

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Welcome to University of Phoenix Stadium, where the Patriots face the Giants tonight in Super Bowl XLII.

It is the calm before the storm here. The numbers are being re-painted in white on the glistening green field. Both end zones are painted in blue. The Patriots' logo/emblem is in one end zone, with the official AFC logo in the right-hand corner. The Giants' logo/emblem is in the other end zone, with the NFC logo in the right-hand corner.

At the center of the field is a large, red, white and blue NFL logo. At each 25-yard line there are Super Bowl XLII logos.

The retractable roof is currently closed as it is lightly raining outside.

Large murals of Patriots QB Tom Brady and Giants DE Michael Strahan are hanging from the upper section of the stadium, above one of the end zones.

The plan will be to post updates throughout the day/night. From 2-3 p.m. EST, I will host an online chat answering questions from the press box here at the stadium. Click here to join in.

  1. Hey Mike, I can see the Pats coming out of the gate with 4 wides and attacking the DB's of the G Men early. Do you see it starting off on that note?
