Belichick at South Florida

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff March 21, 2008 06:00 AM

The Tampa Tribune reports that Patriots coach Bill Belichick stopped at the University of South Florida on Wednesday as part of his annual Florida trip.

Belichick met with South Florida draft-eligible prospects Mike Jenkins and Trae Williams, both of whom are cornerbacks.

Jenkins is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the draft, a possible first-round selection. Williams is projected as a mid-round selection.

Belichick annually makes a pre-draft trip to Florida to get a first-hand look at prospects. He was at the University of Florida earlier this week.

  1. I wouldn't be surprised if they took Derrick Harvey in the 1st round. Belichick loves UF players.

Everyone loves UF players. That entire state produces top quality college players. I don't see us drafting Mike Jenkins with the 7th pick. Mike Jenkins is a great player but I don't trust spending a 7th pick on a cb. We need to go big and get someone like Rivers or Gholston if he is still around. I'm not crazy about Derrick Harvey, and I highly doubt he would step right into the pats system and start.
