Belichick at UF

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff March 20, 2008 07:50 AM

Patriots coach Bill Belichick was at the University of Florida on Wednesday for the opening of the Gators' spring football practice, the Associated Press reported. One purpose of the visit was for Belichick to meet with draft-eligible prospects from Florida; the top Gator likely to be drafted is defensive end/outside linebacker Derrick Harvey.

Later in the day, Belichick attended Florida's victory over San Diego State in the NIT men's basketball tournament. The Associated Press report of the NIT game notes that Belichick watched the hoop game with Florida football coach Urban Meyer, which was noted by some raucous students.

Belichick has made an annual trip to the state of Florida to meet with prospects and spend time with friends like Meyer, Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan and St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa (at spring training).

  1. ESPN showed Belichick sitting with Meyer at the basketball game. He appeared to be wearing a green baseball cap with a St. Louis Cardinals logo (the interlocking St. L). He looked like he was having fun.
