Herm on Matt Ryan's workout
CHESTNUT HILL -- BC quarterback Matt Ryan concluded his workout here at Pro Day and Chiefs coach Herman Edwards commented on the performance, which included 52 throws. Ryan was in shorts and a T-shirt, and did not throw against a defense.
"I thought he pressed a couple times, trying to throw the ball a little too hard," Edwards said. "That's generally what happens with quarterbacks, when you get the media there. It used to be 10-15 years ago, the workouts, five people were there. Now, depending who you are, what school you're at, and where people slate you being drafted, it becomes this. Which is kind of good, because it puts a lot of pressure on the kids, and the game everyone plays, there is going to be pressure on them. You look at that, and also understand that they're going to press some. He pressed some throws, but the thing this guy has is his ability to win. That's the thing you like about quarterbacks -- some guys win, some guys don't. You can look at all the stats, arm strength, you can look at all the different things, but at the end, can he win games? This guy has done that."
Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman agreed with Edwards's assessment that Ryan pressed, but also noted that he moves around better than advertised.

Lets hope Ryan or McFadden slip to #7 & we can trade back. I like Dallas's 2 #1s or maybe an extra second. There is no way they get Gholston unless they trade ahead of the Jets if he is still available.
Why would Dallas trade up if Ryan or McFadden fell? If Ryan falls they already have a quarterback on the team in Romo that they've invested in and who is a capable starter in the league. If McFadden falls Dallas has no need to take New England's pick, because picking after New England is Baltimore, and they already have their running back in McGahee.
Our sources say the Miami Dolphins will trade the #1 pick to Dallas for Tony Romo, Marion Barber and Terrell Owens. Dallas will then draft Matt Ryan with the #1 pick and draft Arkansas Alumni and Jerry Jones favorite RB Felix Jones (we hear from sources Jerry Jones likes Jones over McFadden) and WR Mario Manningham.

If Dallas wants McFadden and he still available at #7 they will need to trade with the Pats or the Pats will offer the pick to someone else who wants a RB. The trade could be as complex as #7 for a teen pick this year and a #1 next year but also additional picks if next year's #1 is not in the top 20.
If there's anything Herm knows it's quarterbacks who know how to win - as long as they hand-off every stinking play.
Why would the Vikings be taking a look at Ryan? They know he will not be there at #17..hummm...what are they thinking? Could a big trade be in the works?
The first comment was talking about two separate events.
If Ryan falls to #7, a team would likely be willing to give up picks to trade up from the teens to get him. Baltimore is at #8, so the Patriots are in a prime position.
If McFadden falls to #7, he would like Dallas's picks. Even though they already have Marion Barber, and could have Felix Jones with their #22, Jerry Jones is the type to want McFadden himself, and would give up both picks. They also happen to work out almost perfectly-- just slightly below the value of the #7, but I think that they are equal what with the massive salaries given to the #7 that nobody wants to give.
