  1. thank goodness. things were starting to spiral out of control, or at least as portrayed by the national media. nothing but great things can come of this. i think that there is one thing eluding moss in his career and that is a super bowl championship. he has no better shot of doing that then with this coach, this quarterback and this organization. i think the happiest person in new england today is wes welker. with brady at the peak of his prime, and relatively young age throughout the rest of the offense; line and skill positions, i see no reason why the past can not duplicate or at least come close to last seasons offensive explosion. now let's fill in some secondary!

    MOSS DEAL DONE
Posted by Mike Florio on March 3, 2008, 2:10 p.m.

A league source tells us that the Patriots and receiver Randy Moss have agreed to a new contract. Per the source, the deal is for three years, $27 million.

The contract hasn’t been signed, and the language is being finalized.

It’s unknown how much of the deal is guaranteed, signing bonus, etc.

  1. I've been sick for the last four days. This is the best news I've heard. Moss is the man! The Pats should sign him to nothing less than a three year day or 3 with a 1-year option. He deserves it and so do the fans here.

  1. Thank God for that. I was near to jumping off the Tobin after the last 4 weeks.

  1. If it's only three years that's a bit disappointing.

  1. Thank god!
He was an important part of the offense, even when he wasn't catching balls.
Plus, this should keep Brady happy, and make him more likely to sign an extension that is favorable to the Patriots organization.

  1. Oh thank the football G-ds... To lose the SB and then lose half the team including Moss... oh my that was enough to make me a Colt fan... well, maybe not THAT bad.

  1. Pats were the 2nd best team last year WITH Moss, now after losing two of their defensive backfield, with any already aging defense, and losing Stallworth, maybe they can aspire to be 3rd or 4th best in NFL next year.

  1. Like the contract if it is only three years. By the time it ends, assuming he doesn't get cut before hand, the Pats will have him while he still has life in those skinny legs. Doesn't look like they break the bank either.

Do us all a favor...get Ty Law in the fold for a year and let's get some young CB's and LB's...GO PATS!!!!

  1. Can Randy play linebacker or defensive back?

Posted by copycatfish March 3, 08 02:40 PM
  1. A 3 year deal is PERFECT and they don't break the bank. We needed Moss this year to keep the offense going and we got him for a good price and good length of contract. Although he had his best year last year even he admitted he was tired at the end of the year and the legs didn't have as much as the younger guys. The Pats got him on their terms. I see NO downside in any of this

  1. ESPN and the national media should be ashamed at the way they've portrayed the Patriots this whole season and it continued yesterday. You could sense the media was trying to push the Moss deal in any direction away from re-signing with the Pats, and yes the media can make a difference, although thankfully this time they didn't. I have barely seen a mention of Belichick's and Pioli's coming out last month about some of the facts of "Spygate" from their view. And the few people that did mention it on ESPN flat out called Pioli a liar.

I must admit, I'd like to see some of the Boston Sports writers show some guts and call out some of the national and regional media who have reported on the Patriots, Moss, Brady and the rest unfairly. There are boundaries that have been crossed and if the Boston sportswriters believe in maintaining integrity in the industry then they should show some guts and speak out against the unfair portrayals on ESPN and in other papers/websites.

The Pats have got some of what they deserved but it's clearly gone over the other top and writes have taken personal shots at the Pats and Coach B. It's personal and that's not what reporters are supposed to do. You want to write an op-ed then do it but if you are reporting then report. Boston media needs to stand up, not for the Patriots, but for the unfair and unethical reporting of the team.

I bet this Moss signing shuts everyone up for a while because they can sense that this team will be back and reloaded immediately. We "lost" Rosie, please he has been injured every year, and like Coach Parcells says, "you are what you are". We lost Kyle Brady, did everyone forget we have a stud talent coming back at TE in David Thomas? They complain we lost Stallworth, no we have just created room for Gaffney to play and get his reps and opened up a roster spot. Stallworth was good but we don't nee him with Gaffney stepping up and Chad Jackson getting his shot this year. Also people don't forget Sammy Morris was AWESOME last year and he's coming back. That's huge for this team. Without signing a single free agent we add Sammie Morris, Chad Jackson, and Dave Thomas to the weapons that are Ben Watson, Kevin Faulk, Wes Welker, Laurence Maroney, and Randy Moss.

Seems to me we still have the best offense in Football.

Posted by Beantown Bobby D March 3, 08 02:42 PM
  1. They needed this. Give Brady all the weapons you can and watch what he can do. If the O-line can open some hole to run through the Pats will really be unstopable!

Posted by Doug March 3, 08 02:42 PM
  1. Phew, things were (sounding) less and less favorable...this makes total sense for both sides!!!!

  1. Great 2008? With What defense? Defense won those three Super Bowls!

Posted by Joe March 3, 08 02:43 PM
  1. You heard it here first:

Brady: Signed to 6 year, $60M contract through 2010.
Moss: Signed to 3 year, $27M contract through 2010.

Prepare for life after Brady, fellow Pats fans, because 2010 is the window.

  1. I never had a doubt that Moss would be back.. I figured he was out there trying to get more and the Pats just wanted to see what he was worth on the market..Good Deal... lets get Gaffney hooked up and the offense is set.... I don't know about the rest of you folks but I felt Gaffney was better than Stallworth this season..Glad he is with the Browns as he did not live up to my expectations......

  1. Whew. Offense still the best in the NFL. Now shore up the defense, LB's and CB's. Draft for it, bring back Seau, sign Law if he still has it, etc. And . . . find ways to get Moss the ball.

  1. I never had any doubt, my brother Nino runs the Dartmouth Auto Group, with whom Moss is a spokesman for, and my brother has been in contact with Moss's legal reps about his being on board this year, and they informed my brother not too worry. It's awesome too see that the AFC DB's are going to have many sleepless nights again this year, now lets ink Jabbr Gaffney and another high end reciever, and lets bring Ty Law home where he belongs.

  1. Beantown Bobby-agree with you but man are you naive. You think the Boston media is going to stick up for the Pats over the national media? They aspire to be the national media! They beg for gigs on around the horn or the mag/website-that is where the $$ is! The only one with even half a stone is Bill Simmons but he is so obsessed with Basketball right now that he won't have a comment until camp breaks in July.

  1. Y'all don't mind if I hold off celebrating until the deal is actually consumated?
It's that "counting the chickens before they hatch" thing.

Let me just say this...It is IMPERATIVE that the Pats sign Moss. I don't think anyone would question that but there are some very serious concerns or should I more accurately say deficiencies (you seldom hear that word mentioned in the same sentence with New England Patriots) that currently exist, and here they are:

    1) With Asante and Randall Gay gone, the Pats need not one but two starting corners. Ellis Hobbs who I love on returns is NOT a starting corner not even close!

    2) Linebackers-With Rosey Colvin departed, you need a blitzing, fast presence on the outside. Vrabel is starting to show his age and was virtually non-existent the second half of last season. Add to this the uncertainty of the Inside (i.e. Junior mulling retirement and Adalius Thomas still transistioning to the outside) and you wonder how long the LB corps can go under the present environment. Bill Belichik doesn't like taking LB's under the 5th round, so if you don't draft an A.J. Hawk, Patrick Willis or Xavier Adibi, you better grab someone via a trade and that guy better be a top LB.

    3) Defensive Line: I know, I know... Richard Seymour was hurt and missed 8 games last year but the reality is that Jarvis Green a back-up when inserted in the line-up has been far more productive than Seymour ever has been. If anyone doubts this, look at the career stats for both men over the past 6 years (omitting 2007 in fairness to Seymour) and you will see that Jarvis Green has been alarmingly more productive! I say "alarmingly" because Green's total compensation has been 1/10 of Seymour's over the past 6 years. What's worse is that Seymour counts $10 million towards the Pats salary cap in 2008! A lot of money for a guy who can't rush the passer anymore!

    4) Finally and don't anyone think this can't happen (Thank God it probably won't) but you can never say never....Bill Belichik: At what point does Belichik continuously endure "Spygate' nonsense and more than that, just decide enough is enough? I won 5 Super Bowls (3 as head coach) , I'll do down as one of the greatest coaches of all-time...screw it! I'm going to hang with my kids and go fishing with Jimmy Johnson? Again not very likely but the thought is enough to make your blood run cold.

Anyway the first three are actionable and immediate concerns that need to be resolved, particularly from a team that plays the 3-4 scheme and does not typically play zone or panic with nickel and dime sets.

  1. Beantown Bobby I was with you till you called Waston a weapon. Don't know about C. Jackson either, best I can remember is a Int he broke up on a pass he was beaten on. Sammy Morris was best when the deep ball still worked well not sure he's a power back. But O-line must run block

  1. Well I'm glad my friend Randy is coming back. As much as I would have liked him to join me here with the Eagles, he deserves a good contract after the way he played. I also hope that we will square off with the Pats next superbowl. Bye the way, you Patriot fans really suck. I'm so glad to be out of that organization. I always felt like we were jinxed this past season due to our cockiness.

  1. choke, choke, choke, maybe with moss or with out u can still look at tapes of other teams and cheat..so what are all you people complaining about..and by the way, all the talk about ur offensive line and all the hype about how good they were was bogus...everytime they faced with a hardcore pass rush they folded like crazy....eagles, ravens and obviously the giants gave u guys a run for their money..sign some better linemen..and some linebackers who arent over the age of 35 and can keep pace with the average running back.

and one more point..belong to a city, u guys are New england fans..what is that..grow a set and belong to a city like philadelphia, new york, boston, somewhere..haha u losers

  1. YES! Minus any major injuries, this assures the Pats going deep again. I know it's wishful thinking but I can't help but wonder if the Pats sign Jason Taylor and Ty Law. They also need younger defensive players but having these two seasoned veterans would help. Taylor has to want a Super Bowl. Bring back Junior Seau and let the old and wise men win it in Tampa Bay. I have no doubt Peyton must have read the news and said, "Oh @#$%!@!!!!!!!" Pats will win 15-0. sit all starters for last game and lose it. Come into the playoffs hungry and beat Dem Dallas Cowboys. By the way Dem Boys will surrender 3 picks to the Pats for the 7th pick. All three will have key rolls!!! And it's not cheating, it's gaining the edge!!!
