Moss: No. 2 of all time

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff March 26, 2008 12:46 PM

ESPN.com's Mike Sando takes on the challenging task of attempting to rank the top 10 wide receivers of all time. In his thorough piece, which taps the expertise of seven top players/coaches/talent evaluators from different eras, Randy Moss winds up with a No. 2 ranking.

Jerry Rice tops the charts.

  1. I don't know that Michael Irvin is the 4th best WR of all time. Marvin Harrison should higher on the list.

  1. I'm not convinced Moss' career, were it to stop now, would put him ahead of Hutson, but certainly his best years are among the best anyone's ever had. But the whole poll is raher era-biased...How can Raymond Berry be a voter and not a candidate????? Lance Alworth devalued because the AFL wasnt strong enough? Like he didn't do just as well in the NFL? The old AFL wasnt as pass-happy as the current, don't touch the receivers, use your hands to pass-block, NFL!

    Michael Irvin 4? Come on.

  1. Moss #2- you have to be kidding me!

Big play capability, able to catch when covered.....and what did he do in the playoffs and Super Bowl, except to be smothered by the coverage? I'm not impressed by the touchdown receptions in the regular season- those records fall inevitably. But if you win a Super Bowl that can't be taken away, and Moss doesn't have a ring. So he shouldn't even be in the top 10. Hasn't proved it to me yet.

  1. Anyone who argues that he shouldn't be number 2 doesn't know football. Randy Moss is the best receiver to ever play the game period. Jerry Rice is only considered better because he played with two hall of fame qb's and his numbers are so good. Moss had only 1 year with a hall of fame qb and look what happened, this wouldn't even be an issue that Moss is the best ever if he would've had some adequate qb's. Anyone who says Moss had Culpepper must have not watched the Vikings haha, because Randy Moss made Daunte Culpepper. All Daunte had to do was throw it up to him. Too bad Moss isn't in his prime anymore, it would have been awesome to see him with a hall of fame qb when he was in his prime.

  1. Moss one day will be the best, one people let the "mystique & legend" of Jerry Rice go. If Moss keeps this up for years, he will when he's done be considered the best. Moss does things Rice COULDN'T DO.
