Moss's agent details deal

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff March 3, 2008 06:27 PM

Tim DiPiero, the agent for Randy Moss, detailed the contract with the Patriots in an email to reporters:

"I am pleased to confirm that Randy Moss has signed a three year contract with the New England Patriots. The contract calls for a total payout of $27 million with $15 million guaranteed, $12 million of which is in the form of a signing bonus. Randy is grateful to Mr. Kraft, Coach Belichick and Scott Pioli for agreeing to the terms of this contract. Randy was serious about wanting to stay. Because of Randy's record-breaking year, the interest in him was very high. Randy took less than he could have to rejoin his teammates."

  1. I heard a rumor that the Eagles made a late run at Randy; any truth to that or has anyone else heard it?

  1. Heard the same Eagle rumor and that they were trying to convince him all weekend. But Randy is a man of his word and winning is very important to him. He put his money where his mouth is and should be applauded for that.

  1. I cannot believe that Moss' agent has the nerve to announce this deal without choking. This has to be the agent's equivalent of choking: best WR in the game in a wild spending 2008 when an inferior WR ( Berrian) gets more guaranteed money. Are youy kidding me? Where were the Cowboys, Eagles, and Green Bay in the bidding?

  1. Report I heard was Philly offered Moss more than the NE deal. Either way, it's a good deal, capwise, for the club.

  1. ref to SHOCKED:

I'm sure the Eagles were talking to Moss while they were talking to Samuel - about 1 week before free agency signing began.

  1. Stinks huh SHOCKED that top players will play here for less because they like the culture, their teammates and winning. Too bad teams like those you mentioned only have money to offer.

Where were all those teams by the way when everybody was saying Randy was a cancer and done physically? The Patriots stepped up and none of those teams did. That's part of what makes the Patriots successful and desirable.

  1. SHOCKED: Remember what Moss said before? (A) He has enough money, so it's not just about the $$. (B) He wouldn't break the bank to stay in New England, but he would break the bank to go anywhere else. I can't blame him for looking for the dollars, but no one else was offering enough to make him go for it.

  1. doesn't matter where they were....Moss wanted to stay put, as long as he was treated fairly & obviously, he thinks he was.

A decent pay day & another solid chance for a ring is what he wanted & what he got...

  1. No incentive pay at all - it is all guaranteed. I guess they know that Moss is a competitor

  1. The true guarantee = the signing bonus + this year's salary + next year's salary and any other roster bonuses/ workout bonuses that have to be paid before the start of the second season

No way Moss gets cut before year 3

The true guarantee will be over $20M

  1. Moss could have received more money to go to the Eagles and have the same chance at winning the Superbowl, if not a better chance. The Pats are aging and losing many players and no more spygate.

  1. It might be that Philadelphia offered more money but, the way NFL contracts typically go, that Moss wouldn't likely see any more money than the Patriots' more realizable contract.
