  1. Uh, boring? ALL of those games are easily one-sided. So much for a competitve opening weekend.

  1. Not one of those games is slightly interesting. Boring NFC game to open the season. Lopsided trackmeet on Sunday. Who cares to watch the lowly Raiders? And Who are these Vikings vs Favre-less Packers...ESPN really knows how to mess up a Monday night since the NFL moved Monday Night Football from ABC.

  1. Absolute huge BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We finished ahead of all these teams except of course, the Giants and we get no opener ? F*** the NFL!

  1. After an historic season . . . this. It's an injustice. Obviously a punishment for "spygate". If the NFL keeps pushing the envelope I believe that eventually other "secrets" and allegations involving other teams will come out. Surprised it hasn't already happened.

  1. No big whoop. This year we can stop with the record chase and focus on winning the whole thing. Giants earned it. We have to get over it. Time to move on.

  1. i am a hugh football fan but none of these strike me as good opening games to be seen nationally. Do we really expect a great game with the bears going to indy the other are your traditional divisional games.

  1. As a season ticket holder the more 1pm games in Foxboro in early September the better! Let 's be able to enjoy the nice weather for a while, instead of having all night games and 3 home games in Dec/Jan to end the season. Now if we can just get an away game for the last ( wasted, wash up playing ) pre-season game we'll have opened the season on the right foot!

Go Pats - gets us a great draft class in 2008!!!!

  1. If they open on the road it will either be Week 1 Sunday at 1pm at Buffalo or Miami. Miami will be at home Week 1 as a result of the Marlins occupying their stadium Week 2 and Week 3.

I don't see them opening w/ the Jets again down or at Gillette Week 1. That's probably a prime time or feature afternoon game and FOX has the Week 1 Doubleheader every year because of US Open Tennis. The only Pats games on FOX this year will be vs. Arizona and the Rams. Not exactly two of the premier teams the NFL will want to feature Week 1. So that should eliminate them.

If they open at home it looks like at 1pm against either the Bills, Dolphins, Chiefs, or Steelers. I'd think the Steelers would be a prime time game too.

  1. The Patriots could have what the league considers a "national" game on opening weekend, as the CBS 4 PM game is usually broadcast to most of the country and is usually a top matchup. Perhaps the game at San Diego.

The second Monday night game always has to feature two West Coast teams, so the Pats were automatically excluded. Could you imagine if the Pats opener was at 10 PM? The state would have to make the next day a holiday just to keep everyone from calling in sick.

NFL schedules are REALLY hard to create. The opponents are locked in, but there is so much to take into account. Conflicts with baseball schedules and other local events. No team can have more than three games in a row at home or away. The Giants and Jets can't play at home on the same day or play games at the same time as each other. Ditto for the 49ers and Oakland. Bye weeks have to happen in weeks 4 to 10. Top games like Indy - Pats are preferred for November sweeps periods to make the networks happy. Divisional games need to be spread out so that the Pats aren't playing Buffalo twice in three weeks.

So, the league may have wanted the Pats to play a top opponent that first weekend and put the game on prime time national TV, but it just couldn't work out.

  1. I am just very, very, very sorry that the Giants were so much more apparently hungry and physical than the patriots in the playoff game.

It appears the only thing missing from New England that was the "hungry rage" for the win the Giants had. New England had everything else and more.

Let New England NEVER MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN.

  1. As a Bills season ticket holder(grew up in Boston so I still have a soft spot for the Patriots except against the Bills. I left before the AFL got started)I imagine most Patriot fans hate the night games and late season games as much as we do. Being out of the spotlight for the last ten years has made the last season's night games special. But afternoon games in the fall, up until mid-November are still the choice of most attendies. So cheers to the Pats and their fans for missing at least one weekend of national hoop-la. The TV timeouts in these night games are hateful also. but I guess the players and owners wouldn't be millionaires and billionaires without them.

  1. Broncos-Raiders sounds fascinating as the second game of the doubleheader. Soon we'll have the entire season schedule...maybe by the weekend? Aren't there NFL meetings this week?

  1. Did you watch Sports Final, last night. I think they said it best. Because it is opening weekend, EVERYONE will be excited and watch. So that is why some of the games feature teams that didn't even make the playoffs last year. The KEY will be November. That is when sweeps-week occurs. Games like Indianapolis-New England are played at that time because everyone in the nation is screaming for a great contest and the Colt-Pats always deliver. So, I don't mind the Patriots not being premiered on Opening Day because I know that, when the NFL needs a high rating, they will turn to the Patriots. So, when the schedule comes out, look at the November games, not the September games.

  1. I am a Boston fan and have a lot of respect for Joe Torre. But This Spygate peals in significance to the Steroids pumped up team that won 4 world series in the 90s.
Where are calls to find out what Steinbrenner and Torrie knew and when did they know it. It isn't just the Yankies that *(&^, the NY media is right there with thme. If it were the Giants or Jets involved, this story would have never got off the ground.
