National view on Patriots

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff March 4, 2008 08:05 AM

  • Dallas Morning News columnist Tim Cowlishaw writes that the contract agreement with Randy Moss is a better deal for the Patriots.

  • ESPN's John Clayton writes that the three-year, $27 million contract for Randy Moss is a win-win for both sides.

  • Tom Curran of NBCsports.com asks the question: "Now that he's gotten paid and returned to his rightful place as the best receiver in football with the records to prove it, will Moss continue to be the Good Patriot? Who will he be now?"

  • Clifton Brown of the Sporting News examines the free-agent moves of AFC East teams and concludes that "everyone is still chasing the Patriots."

    1. The Dallas columnist is a hoot! The Patriots were sooooo desperate to re-sign Randy Moss that they paid a whopping $9 million a year for him, Moss being unarguably the most talented and arguably the most dangerous WR in NFL history. What a bargain! That's less than what A$ante got from the Eagles. We should all be so desperate when hiring someone.

    1. Enjoy Cowlishaw on Aroung the Horn. He is right and wrong. Yes, Moss returning to the Patriots was beneficial to the Pats. He is wrong however on Matt Walsh. The sour grapes of watching the successful Pat teams makes these overhyped critics look well - purple and green.

    1. Why do we care what other media outlets are saying? These are the same publications which at some point or another, bashed the Pats for spygate, yet Mike Reiss feels the need to give them attention. Again, why do I care what hilljacks in Dallas think?

Did John Tomase give you this brilliant idea?

    1. It's amazing that these national writers are still trotting out the 'Spygate' details like it's still news.. Not a single article can be written about this team without the writer explaining in great detail what happened in week one against the Jets.. Now the Matt Walsh garbage, which will turn out to be nothing, I'm sure.. Thank God for everyone else the Giants won the Super Bowl.. People wouldn't be satisfied until Belichick was executed and the Pats were kicked out of the NFL. THEY CHEATED.. WE GET IT... LET IT GO...

    1. "Spygate, spygate, Braawk!" All of the journalists sound like parrots. I'm so tired of hearing about all of this. You can expect the writers for the rags in Dallas to say something about it. (One of them had some sort of nonsense analysis about how the Dallas teams of the 90's were greater than the Patriots because of all the Hall of Famers they had. Ha!) However, I have lost so much respect for people like Peter King harping on it non-stop. All the teams do this, including the Jets, but no one ever talks about that. It makes all the losers feel good that somehow the Patriots **might** have some sort of unfair edge. It's too bad Mike Reiss doesn't write a long piece about all of this nonsense. I'm sure it would be great. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be very unbiased. But who cares? It doesn't stop anyone else.

    1. I am originally from Boston and still a Pats fan, but have lived in Dallas for the past ten years. Tim Cowlishaw is a know-nothing blowhard, but so are the rest of the columnists on the Dallas Morning News. I wouldn't give two-cents for his opinion about the Moss deal or anything else he has to say about the Patriots. I no longer subscribe to, or buy locally, the paper because of the poor quality of journalism across the board by its writers. I prefer reading the Boston Globe online.
