No compensatory picks for Pats
The NFL awarded its 2008 compensatory draft choices today and, as expected, the Patriots did not receive a selection.
A team that lost more or better compensatory free agents in 2007 than it acquired was eligible to receive 2008 compensatory draft picks. The number of picks a team received equaled the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four.
The Patriots currently have eight picks in the 2008 draft. Here is the breakdown:

Rounds 1-3 is where the quality picks are for us this year. Yes Brady was a late round pick, but that was a fluke. We need to hit at least 3 out of 4 of the round 1-3 picks. When I mean hit, they have to contribute this year, and hopefully net us 2 LBs and at least 1 CB.
Anyone think that the 4 picks turns into 5 picks, with one being for next year? I'd love the #7 overall to be traded for a 11-20 pick AND a 20-31 pick. Save us money, and still get quality people who can play. We'll see in a month!
So unless we make significant F.A. moves before the season, we should see a decent amount of compensatory picks next year? Am I correct that you are saying that how a team does in FA in year 1 affects their compensatory picks in year 2? If I am correct we should be in good shape to land compensatory picks next year, cause we are not getting much in free agency this year and we lost 2 starting CB's.
Thomas, that is correct. They should get some compensatory picks in next year's draft for losing Samuel et al.
