PATRIOTS TAKE LOOK AT MAPP: The Patriots had a private, on-campus workout with North Carolina linebacker Durell Mapp earlier this month. Mapp is considered a later-round selection, which reflects how detailed and thorough the scouting process is for NFL teams, including the Patriots. Teams work out many prospects leading up to the draft, with the sessions most accurately reflecting that more information is needed before giving the player a final grade. Mapp (6-1, 227) played outside linebacker for North Carolina and was highly productive on the stat sheet, leading all ACC players in tackles. He would most likely project to inside linebacker in the Patriots' 3-4 alignment.

SAMMY MORRIS CHECKS IN: Running back Sammy Morris was on hand for the first day of the Patriots' offseason program, and he shared his thoughts in Tuesday's editions of the Boston Globe. While the offseason program consists of work in the weight room and classroom sessions, Morris said another benefit is the camaraderie that builds. "You get a chance to meet all the new guys as well, and kind of seeing how they’re going to fit in," he said. "I think a lot of how you see how the guys fit in is more based on the interaction with the players that have been here. I feel good about the new guys coming in, and obviously the guys coming back. It’s a good time here."

PATS WON'T PURSUE PACMAN: When Pacman Jones's agent said last week that Jones would be interested in joining the Patriots, the words were construed by some as the team having interest in Jones. That is not the case. According to a league source, the Patriots will not pursue Jones.

  1. I'm glad to hear the Pats aren't interested in Pacman. Too much baggage. Yes, he's talented, but there have got to be other choices out there for us. Besides, if we were prepared to pay the money he wants, we could have/should have kept Asante Samuel, who already knew/fit into our system. Let someone else deal with the Pacman project.
