Jason Webster agrees
The Patriots have added another piece in their team-building process today, finalizing a contract agreement with CB Jason Webster, according to a source involved in the negotiations.
Webster flew into town last night and met with team officials this morning at Gillette Stadium. It did not take long to consummate a contract agreement, with Webster canceling a trip to meet with Giants officials in New York.
Webster enters his ninth NFL season in 2008. He projects to compete for time at cornerback, where the Patriots are restocking after losing Asante Samuel and Randall Gay in free agency.

Is adding a short injured CB really 'restocking'?
Remember when the PATs signed a veteren corner last year (don't remember the name) and it was a total waste of time and money?
I wonder if Webster will even make the cut by September!
Wish the Pats would bring back Law. He wants to prove himself and I forsee a great year for him.
Assume they are not finished with this, he could replace Gay for that matter if we get Law, or move Merriweather, or draft a CB at#7, rather have a LB though.
I agree with Jimmy about bringing back Law. I also think he could help in teh development of Brandon Meriwether.
Obviously you need players to compete for the job, and you need to take what is available. If Bill is willing to give him a shot he probably feels that he has a chance of fitting in with the system.
Ty Law runs a 4.7 40 and doesn't like to tackle. He might get you 6-7 picks but that's because he's giving up 10 catches a game in his zone.
They need speed at the LB position in a big way to help out the DBs.
Chad Scott was hurt this past season but played pretty well for them in '06. Back in 2003, they brought in another veteran CB (Tyrone Poole) who went on to have a terrific, near Pro Bowl-level season. Six INT's and something like 20 pass breakups. Injuries did Poole in the next two years but he was great job alongside Ty Law that one SB season in NE. I wouldn't downplay the potential for Webster contributing just yet. So he missed a season; he's still around 30, knows the AFC East and plays a position where experience counts as much as anything.
Rezadude , I think that was Duane Starks. He was a total bust. Willie McGinest called him out after he (Willie) went to the Browns.
There was another bust that year as well with Monty Biesel. He came closed to doing a Ryan Leaf on a reporter.
he is a better CB than hobbs. but no matter who the pats add, they will never beat the BBWC.
Jason who? Let's see . . . was he a star CB for an Arena League team?
We gotta the Law Firm back in business in the secondary...only this time, instead of lawyer it'll be rodney harrison.
Why aren't the Pats interested in talking to Marlon McCree. He's a killer in the backfield and with Rodney getting old, receivers aren't afraid of going across the middle anymore. Sure, he blew the Chargers playoff hopes 2 years ago with the interception/fumble, but he more tha redeemed himself last year with the crippling hit on Reggie Wayne that stalled the Colts drive and gave the Chargers the win.
Don't want Ty Law back now. He was great while he was here, but the last thing we need is more graybeards. At his position, his age and lack of speed would surely cost the Pats as the age of the LB's did several times last year. The offense won't be as good as last year, so there will be less margin for error. The defense needs to get younger.
With the amount of money the Pat's spend to resign Randy Moss how come they didn't have enough $$$$ for Asante Samuel. I see where coach Bill B like to spend $$$for players that handle the ball in front instead of handling the ball in back.
rezadude: I believe you're thinking about Tory James.
Thanks for your interest in the Patriots' offseason moves, 18wins. Perhaps you should turn your attention to your Jets, I mean, your beloved Giants, who have their own personnel issues to deal with.
McCree is king of the bad angles. We had him back when his name was Tebucky.
Besides, the Pats are set at safety. Harrison is still playing well, Sanders emerged as a legitimate starter last year, and Meriweather appears to be improving. If Chad Scott returns, he could even contribute from that spot.
Webster probably isn't going to be the guy, but at the very least he adds depth. I think Richardson will be a terrific nickel corner, and that really leaves them needing only one more body.
This is a good signing. No doubt he came cheap and this guy is a veteran starting corner. He'll be a nice nickel corner with the Pats and came much cheaper than Gay would have. A nice move.
Now that the furor and the bleeding from the super bowl loss is over, may I ask the question: Why is the offensive coordinator responsible still with the Patriots? In watchng the first half of the Superbowl, the Giants did exactly what they had done in the regular season game, and the Patriots had made absolutely no adjustments and had no answer whatever to it. Did this guy go on vacation between the two games? I can't believe nothing could have been done! Any comments?
Time to move on from the Lawman he is yesterday's news ,,,
getting concerned on those JETS, however... back from the Sunshine State and they see Jason Taylor in a PATS uniform next year, for the right price and draft choices ....
Barry Bonds is to baseball as Mr. X is to football. Who is Mr. X? Answer: Coach Bill. Bonds is a cheat and rude and crude just like the Pat's head coach.
I agree, they kept on tyring to go deep, against that rush. What happen to the screens and short passing game?? They went to it too late. Remember the Philly SB, It was 2 or three series of blitz pressure and they change to screens and then had success.
TY LAW FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND HELL YES I WANT WEBSTER WEBSTER HAS AN AVG OF 6 INT PER SEASON WOULDNT YOU WANT HIM INSTEAD OF ELLIS HOBBS? THINK ABOUT IT......
our whole defense needs an overhaul...
The pats still need a shut down type corner? How about a trade no one is talking about a trade like deangelo hall or lito sheppard I could see you getting them for a 4th round pick or at worst a 3rd rounder
Coach Bellicose has a pretty good record when it comes to signing players from w/in the division: Sammy Morris, Wes Welker, anybody?
I can kind of see Big Al's point, but can give 18 reasons why he shouldn't - and won't - be fired.
Big Al
4th and 13 and going for it. ( should we draft a kicker) Not new for the Pats but this was not the time or game for it. On the same note how does the OC know Tom will throw it where no one can even fight for it. Everyone can't be double covered. There has to be someone that could have JUST got the first down. O-line,no power runner,Tom,OC,Bill B. not stepping in, Need I go on? I did see some things tried but after one or two times of not getting what they wanted. They never went back to it.
P.S.and I thought I was over it.
I have been a football coach at the high school level for 8 years now, and an avid fan of the Pats for all my life. The Pats game plan for the superbowl was fine. Bottom line was, and still is that the Giants as a team out played the Pats. The Giants pass rush was relentless the whole game, the Pats tried to run the screens but even those plays were disrupted by the speed of the giants front four or five. The pats also tried to get the run going in the second half, but after two drives with out being able to turn the corner they put the ball back in Brady's hands. Eventually Brady did deliver, we did lead the game with 2 plus minutes left to go, alot of people over look that. As for the defense being to old and slow, well they were everywhere on that last drive. Every play the Giants made was well contested by our defense, they just found away to make them. I don't think there is a coach in the league that could have drawn up a better defense for the Tyre play, Eli was a half step away from being called down by the Refs, but instead its perhaps the best single catch in a superbowl. The Pats will be fine going into 08-09, The offense may even be better than last year ( yes better, just think about those who did not play last year on O, that will be healthy for this year ) and the defense will come around. The D is getting younger, and Capers will help alot.
I agree with jsp, why can't we go after deangelo hall or lito sheppard, or both? Can you imagine the two of them on the field at the same time, for the same team??? Asante who?
J.Webster has been injured. However, he's real! People lie, stats don't. He tackles with the best CB's period, runs 4.27/4.31 speed, 8 yr vet and was drafted by the great Bill Walsh. I like him!
