Welker enjoys the offseason
The Associated Press catches up with Patriots WR Wes Welker in Oklahoma City after he was honored by the March of Dimes' Oklahoma chapter on Wednesday night.
Welker, who grew up in Oklahoma City, told the AP he is heading back to Gillette Stadium for offseason workouts in less than 10 days. His offseason has included some hunting, as well as a trip to Las Vegas with friends.
"It's been nice just kind of getting away from it. It was such a long season," Welker said. "Being able to get back and really hang out with family and just relax, go on trips and different things like that, it's nice."
Mike Reiss and Christopher L. Gasper provide regular updates -- and a
behind the scenes look -- on the daily happenings of the Patriots.

The Pats are 3 - 0 with Troy Brown playing in the Super Bowl 0-3 without him playing.
The 1996 catch is the penultimate highlight. Without the Pats do not even make the playoffs.
LOL McSheffrey - what does this have to do with Welker enjoying his time off?
But since you brought it up -
Good observation about Brown...I don't see why they choose to cut him when he's still seems valuable? If asked back for another year, at any reasonable amount of money - I'd think Troy would be delighted & proud to be a Patriot once again.
Who knows what's going to happen with the CB position, but if all, or even any, prospects failed - at least we know he's capable of holding his own at that position. (unless perhaps, he's still more injured than it appeared...ie: Hobbs)
Plus, if Capers were to groom Troy as a CB from the beginning of training camp this year, everyone might just be surprised at how little Samuel's departure really means - from a TEAM perspective, and THAT'S Troy "team" Brown's middle name.
Also (and I'd hate to think of it happening) What if Welker misses some games, for whatever reason?
Troy has proven he can play "slot" many times over & he's also an asset at kick returns. (yeah, I know about the one he took off the face-mask in the play-off, but I cut him "slack" on that - being his 1st game back after injury & then had a nice return later in game)
I hope BB & SP re-think this move - Unless they have something else up thier sleeves, I think getting rid of Troy Brown is a mistake.
P.S. - won't it be miserible for New England if he ends up on ANY of the other AFC East Teams?
