Wilson to Bucs & CB

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff March 14, 2008 06:05 PM

Eugene Wilson agreed to a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today. The Buccaneers plan to play Wilson at cornerback.

The news was reported by ESPN's John Clayton earlier today.

Wilson's agent, James Sims, said there is excitement for Wilson to return to corner after playing primarily safety in five years with the Patriots.

"It should be warmer for Geno in Tampa," joked Sims, noting that the one-year deal puts Wilson back on the market next year, where he might generate more interest after working at corner.

  1. Another Ex-Patriot about to be exposed. Not worth it.

  1. Good for Eugene I guess. He is going to get burned. I remember him getting burned all the time and missing lots of tackles.

It's time for Brandon Merriweather to step it up!

I'm ready for some big hits this year in the backfield.

Merriweather & Harrison = UH OH!

  1. I know right...especially after playing them in the '07 preseason. That tape would've come in handy.

  1. It's kind of sad that he fell so far so quickly on the Patriots depth chart. He had a couple of good years, but he had a lot of injuries the last few years, which I'm sure had a lot to do with his performance. If he can stay healthy, this should be a get signing for the Bucs. My guess, though, is he'll be out of the NFL in a couple of seasons.
    Best of luck, Eugene!
