Belichick on Wheatley

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff April 26, 2008 10:21 PM

In a written statement, Patriots coach Bill Belichick had this to say about second-round pick Terrence Wheatley:

"Terrence Wheatley was a really good player for Colorado. He is smart. He has played multiple positions, both inside and outside. He returns kicks. I think he can contribute in a number of different spots. He is a very athletic guy and had a very productive career at Colorado."

Cannot believe he fell this far. He has the heart of a lion. I hope everyone noticed how quickly the pick went in. It was sent to NY instantly.

Kid is great in run support. Can play press, cover 2, and will immediately help in the slot. Mayock loves this kid and of course Kiper is out to lunch. His change of direction when covering a receiver is special and he had a wrist fused so he could play. This was a kid Bill loved off the chart.

Another smart kid who was so impressive when talked to and a classy young man.

Lots of smiles around the complex this evening and we have 3 picks in round 3.

    Wheatley can flat play.
