Mayo on the Patriots' menu

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff April 10, 2008 11:31 PM

As part of their extensive draft preparations, the Patriots are scheduled to host Tennessee linebacker Jerod Mayo on a visit at Gillette Stadium on Friday, April 11.

Mayo's visit, confirmed by his agent Sean Kiernan of Impact Sports, is one of 11 he is taking before the draft. Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cleveland, New Orleans, Atlanta, St. Louis, Dallas, Washington, Buffalo and the New York Jets are also on Mayo's itinerary.

The 6-foot-1, 242-pound Mayo, who enters the draft after his junior season, projects to inside linebacker in the Patriots' 3-4 scheme. He has been working alongside longtime NFL linebacker Takeo Spikes in preparation for the NFL draft, and could be selected as early as the latter portions of the first round.

  1. Mike,

I can imagine that journalists wait a lifetime for a scenario that accommodates a headline as appetizing as this to come along. Readers just eat it up.
