No offer sheet for Seward
ANALYSIS
Today marked the final day that teams could sign restricted free agents to offer sheets, and while the Patriots previously hosted Carolina LB Adam Seward on a visit at Gillette Stadium, the team let the deadline pass without crafting an offer sheet for him.
The Patriots seemingly liked Seward, who projected to inside linebacker in their 3-4 alignment, but the question was at what price.
Seward received a low tender offer from the Panthers, which will pay him $927,000 this season. Had the Patriots offered Seward a similar deal in an offer sheet, they probably assumed the Panthers would simply match to retain him.
Based on the way things unfolded, it's seems reasonable to assume the Patriots weren't willing to go that much higher for Seward, who has primarily been a backup in three seasons with the Panthers.
There is always the chance that Seward could still wind up with the Patriots via trade.

a drafted restricted free agent with a tendered offer at nearly a million dollars plus having to give up a 5th round draft for compensation is a tough pill to swallow for the patriots, I'm sure if an offer had been presented at 1.2 or 1.4 would have been matched by the panthers so why even make the offer, I still think after seward signs his tender that the pats may try to work out a trade but the panthers would probably want a fourth round trade, it was fun while it lasted
