Player to join Pats
Veteran punter Scott Player is set to sign a contract to join the Patriots, his agent Vann McElroy confirmed today.
Player will apparently compete with Chris Hanson, who spent the 2007 season with the Patriots.
Last year, when Player signed with the Browns, the team's official website wrote a story on his unique single-bar facemask. Player is the last player in the NFL to wear the single-bar, and he brought his own mask to Cleveland.
Kicker Matt Bahr is believed to be the last player to wear the single-bar facemask in New England.

This is unrelated to this particular entry, but I heard today the Chiefs are willing to move Jared Allen. Do you see any interest with NE? I have always thought highly of him.
I am not a fan of Scott Player, seeing him punt here, in AZ, for several years. I dont think he can handle the adverse weather conditions in Foxboro, and the other AFC East opponents.
Isn't he like sixty years old or something?
Nothing wrong with a little TC and pre-season competition. I think Hanson will win the job but this will only make him better. As far as Player goes, he is 38 yrs old not 60 and he can't be that bad if he has played in the league for 10 yrs. From what I've seen he is a solid vet with a good leg with proper mechanics. He seems to get good leg extension which is the key to driving the ball for distance and height. He does do a solid job on directional punts and has done well placing kicks inside the 20 over his carrer. It seems to me that the Cardinals coverage unit was poor and he took the blame, while he was there. It does concern me though that he career avg is much better in AZ vs the road but he did punt well in Cleveland last yr while he was there (45.6 gross and 40.3 net on 13 punts).
I support this move. It will put pressure on Hanson to punt better, which is always good. I think guys tend to relax if there's no competition during camp.
As for those concerned with Player's age, you don't need to be in your 20's to be an effective punter. You don't even need to be in great shape. If you have a strong leg, you can be effective at your job. It's not like the Pats are bringing in a 50 year old running back.
Don't hate the Player, hate the game. Play on Player.
Scott is also an excellent holder. Just ask Neil Rackers how much he misses Players' skill with that.
