The Patriots selected Colorado CB Terrence Wheatley with their second-round pick, 62nd overall.

More to come.

  1. Is it just me or is it hillarious to see Mel Kiper say he thinks Wheatley is more a 4th round pick... seriously that guy is the worst prognosticator...

  1. This is a total freaking joke. Wheatley is 5-9 and 177 lbs. Another useless pick like in the same mold as Hobbs. Terrell Thomas was available and a much better choice. NFL wide receivers are getting bigger, and faster, like today's picks at 6-2, 6-3, 6-5 and so on.... This kid will end up on IR before the season even starts. One thing is evident though, with all the action at cb by the pats, in free agency, this pick, alleged discussions with Law and Possibly the Eagles about Shepperd, they really are going to move Hobbs, the weak link, off the corner where he is a disaster. Cant happen soon enough. In either case, this was one of the worst picks ever...in the mode of Chris Canty and Eugene Chung.... what the hell happens to BB and Pioli in the 2nd round, they totally suck.

  1. I'm gettin real sick of everybody booing the Patriots. I understand why it's happening, but grow up people. It's irritating. Thanks a bunch, Spygate.

  1. Who? ESPN had him going in the fourth round. We couldn't wait to use one of our three third rounders?

  1. Yikes... hoping this is a "they know something the rest of us don't" type pick.

  1. I am not surprised at the position of the player but don't know anything about him except that he may have had injuries. I couldn't find any reference to him in the publications I saw but one of them had Mayo going in the 3d round to the Redskins . The Globe didn't have anything on him either so I am really looking forward to having the blanks filled in.

  1. I don't completely agree with Mie Allen here but I do find it odd that even the NFL page compares him, of all NFL players, most to Ellis Hobbs. I was expecting more of ball magnet that a technician, frankly, because we already have one!
I think everyone underestimates Hobbs because he typically takes on the tall tougher receivers- T.O. and Burress were both his responsibility this year. My only suprise is that height obviouly killed us in the secondary in the SuperBowl but apparently Fernando Bryant is who they will look to as an answer there.

  1. Seriously guys calm down. Wheatley is a solid corner, he ran the 3rd fastest 40 in the combine (among DBs), was top 5 vertical jumper, 2nd broad longest broad jump and had above average reps (17). He was 177 at the combine but he plays at 187 which is 2 lbs heavier than Asante Samuel and he is less than half an inch shorter than Asante Samuel but has much better measurables, much more athletic and much faster.

  1. I sure do wish the Patriots had you guys rather than Scott Pioli helping him. Mike Allen, seems to know more than Belichick too. Great insight - maybe you can let Kraft know when you see him walking around Brookline with his white cane.

  1. who the heck cares that ESPN had him going in the 4th round. Mel kiper is a hack. In case any of you noticed the pats wasted no time getting that pick up there meaning they are really impressed with him. Hes really only an inch smaller than samuel. Get a grip people. Whatever happened to in Bill we Trust. God you guys are unbelievable right now. Ya im a bit dispointed they didnt move up in the second round but relax and have some faith.

  1. It was going to be Porter or Wheatley in the 2nd Rd for me. When Porter from Indiana came off the board I was very satisfied w/this pick. Don't listen to Kiper, Mayock knows a lot more and he likes this pick as do I.

  1. Mister Nooner. Sometimes fans can, and do, have better insight. It is not out of the ordinary. In this particular case, they blew it in the second round. Wheatley will not make this team. What a guy does in shorts and a t shirt at the combine means nothing compared to going against real NFL players who want to hurt you.

I hope I am wrong but I believe this will continue the BB/Pioli streak of screwing up in the 2nd round of drafts.

  1. hey ill give him a chance, but if he gives up a big time TD covering a tall WR we'll be hearing the same old record play

  1. If he stays healthy he will have far more picks than Asante "oh no-- I was thinking about myself and $$$ next season and dropped the ball that could have won the Super Bowl" Samuel
