Belichick: A return to roots
FOXBOROUGH -- Bill Belichick is now in his 34th NFL season, so there isn't much he hasn't seen in the pro game.
Still, on a day like today, in the team's first practice of rookie minicamp, he appreciates that it's a return to basics.
"It's always an exciting time of year to work with new kids and see their eagerness and start at a very fundemantal level," Belichick said in the opening remarks of his press conference (noon). "Just the very most basic terminology and plays and techniques and all that. It's a good reminder of where everybody has come from.
"Certainly these guys have a long way to go, but they're all out there, they seem to have a good attitude, working hard. We met with them this morning, gave them a lot of information, and it seemed like they were able to handle most of it. We'll get those things corrected, give them some more this afternoon, and just keep plugging along.
"It's good to be back out there. We had a lot of bodies out there. We'll have to evaluate some of those and see how that all shapes up roster-wise going forward, by the end of the weekend.
"But I think you [media members] all had us outnumbered today. Pretty well covered practice. I doubt we were able to slip anything by you."

I doubt that there is a better example of why Belichick is so successful. He loves coaching football!
Additionally, I am please to see that Mayo is playing the weakside ILB - I think this will be the best fit for him as it will allow him to run and hit and not spend a lot of time talking on a 324 lb OG. If Bruschi and Victor Hobson can hold down the strong side ILB and AD plays like he played in the Superbowl and Seymour starts playing like he gives a crap...we might be on to something....
