Keeping it 'Light'

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff May 10, 2008 07:57 AM

Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports writes on Patriots left tackle Matt Light, noting that "in an era in which superstar players, overbearing head coaches and even former video assistants turned informants tend to take themselves too seriously, Light is a refreshingly unpretentious presence."

Silver then shares several stories of a recent meeting with Light, such as when Light filled the car of quarterback Tom Brady with packing peanuts.

  1. Light's always come across as being a pleasant but different person. Good article. Love the fact that the first NFL game he ever saw was the first one he played in. Thanks Mike

  1. Light was certainly an unpretentious presence on Super Bowl Sunday.

  1. What a relief. I'm glad he can laugh about choking in the Super Bowl. And for always snagging a penalty at the most crucial time of a game. Good work, Light. That's why you're my least favorite Patriot of all time. But then again, it's sort of funny, don't you think? Ugh.

  1. If I were him, I would be watching the SB tapes over and over and over again. He is making me worry about next season now.

  1. Are you really worried about Light? He was just voted to the Pro Bowl for the first time and allowed Brady to take a nap looking for receivers all year. I don't believe he is at fault for the team's defense or the struggling offense in the SB.

I doubt any of the Patriots are watching that tape. Unless we have a game with the Giants coming up anytime next year. I haven't played close attention to the schedule yet.

  1. All you people ragging on Light - find another team to support. He's over it and it's his job. I'll bet he does his job better than you do yours. He's a solid Pro Bowl NFL left tackle with a quirky personality. Enjoy it or find something else to be depressed about. Sheesh.

  1. Yes, he was voted to the Pro Bowl, but so what? Did you watch the Pro Bowl? Osi Umenyiora still beated him on almost single offensive play, and that's 1 week after torching him in the Super Bowl. Let's face it, Pats fans, Matt Light and Nick Kazur CANNOT block speedy DEs and that's been the problem for a while.
And if the Pats players don't go back to watch the tapes, they are foolish, cuz next season, they are going to see the exact same defensive scheme the Giants thrown at them 17 weeks in a row.

  1. Props leofwine, most NE fans are brats. "Wah, we went 18-1, we would've had the best season in football history if Walshgate didn't break THE DAY BEFORE THE SUPERBOWL. Light sucks, the Patriots suck, WAH."

I'm sorry but you guys really are unbearable. That's coming from a fellow Pats fan. But with ticket prices the way they are, and plenty of fans to take my place, I'm more inclined to say...

    GO BRUINS!

  1. Article aside light has always been beaten by Taylor, Freeny, Schoble etc. and as for the PRO Bowl Rivers went before Brady last year

  1. Matt Light should be a right tackle, not a left.

Pats better hope he steps up his game this year or it could be a loooooooong year.

Mark it down.. Next year, the Pats draft a Left Tackle to take over for Matt.
