Matt Walsh follow-up

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff May 8, 2008 09:30 AM

A few items from around the country that follow up on what Matt Walsh certified in writing that he will be providing to the NFL today:

  • Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times notes that the list of tapes does not include the Rams' walkthrough prior to Super Bowl XXXVI, which wasn't a surprise to Rams president John Shaw. "We were led to believe that he did not have a tape of us and that was the case," Shaw told the L.A. Times. "I had spoken to the commissioner . . . and there was absolutely no confirmation of [Walsh] having a tape."

  • The Associated Press reports the story, with league spokesman Greg Aiello saying: "This is consistent with what the Patriots had admitted they had been doing, consistent with what we already knew."

  • Jay Glazer of Fox Sports provides his analysis of the tapes, essentially saying that the big news is that there is no tape of the Rams' walkthrough before Super Bowl XXXVI.

    1. Mike,

I think you have lost ALL objectivity with the team you cover. Do you worhsip these guys or what? No smoking gun? In your very own words the tapes include:

Signals from Dolphins coaches in a game Sept. 24, 2000.

Offensive and defensive signals of Dolphins coaches from a game Oct. 7, 2001.

Etc. Etc. If that isn't a smoking gun I don't know what is. No mention of "stealing" by Walsh in the New York Times, but you constantly say Walsh "slote" the tapes. Time for a refresher in objective jouranlism Mike.

Signals from Bills coaches from a Nov. 11, 2001, game.

Signals from Browns coaches from a game Dec. 9, 2001.

Two tapes of signals from Steelers coaches from the 2001 AFC Championship game, held Jan. 27, 2002.

Signals from Chargers coaches from a game Sept. 29, 2002.

    1. I'm glad you declined to link to any ESPN related content. Matt Walsh bringing a whole lot of nothing to the table isn't what they were hoping for, I'd wager.

    1. It was clear from the outset that the longer this issue took to resolve, the less Matt Walsh had. Now the commissioner needs to step forward and put a wrap on the whole sordid mess. To date I believe he has done a horrible job on this issue. He has allowed himself to be managed by the hysteria. Let's see if he can finally take control

    1. Mike (commenter),

All of that was already admitted to. That is not new information.
A smoking gun would have been something different than taping game signals, such as taping a practice.
And Walsh obviously "slote" the tapes, because he hasn't been an employee for years and yet he still has them.

    1. Walsh stole the tapes by virtue of the fact that he had them in his possession. If you want a smoking gun, there it is.

    1. Mike (commenter),
Mike Reiss is extremely objective with his coverage of the Patriots and of the NFL in general. He is very straightforward with facts and very honest when he presents his opinion and he never mixes the two or lets his emotions get in the way (which is the reason i read his blog). If anything, Reiss is sometimes too much by-the-book. As another commenter referenced, you should go read ESPN for the sensationalism you are looking for. Wait a second, you must be a JETS fan. UG. Why am I wasting my time.

    1. Mike (commenter),

The fact that Reiss or any other Globe editor posted your comment of such nonsense is the proof of their objectivity. Then against why would I reason with a Jets fan, as Erik pointed out.

    1. Mike(commenter)- Mike Fish, maybe???

Really, Mike??? Are you really calling out Mike Reiss for a lack of objectivity?

it sounds to me like you are the one with a lack of objectivity.
