Punter Dragosavich released

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff June 5, 2008 01:18 PM

The Patriots announced the release of rookie free agent punter Mike Dragosavich today.

Dragosavich, of North Dakota State, was originally signed May 5. He was competing against veterans Chris Hanson and Scott Player, with Hanson the incumbent after punting wire to wire for the Patriots last season.

The Patriots probably would have liked to bring Dragosavich to training camp, but with a roster limit of 80 players (instead of the 86, with exemptions, from years past), there is more of a premium on back-end roster spots this year.

Taking three punters to camp under those conditions was likely a luxury the team felt it couldn't afford.

  1. I guess his rendition of Olivia Newton John's "Let's Get Physical" at last night's Larryoke event didn't go over so well.

  1. Everything I read made him sound like an inconsistent punter who had technique problems... well that was off the Patriots training camp blog.

  1. This is sickening.....Drago is an amazing punter, an amaing player, and an amazing person. I had the chance this past year to see him give it his all in a game (North Dakota State v. Southern Utah) in which his performance was relatively unimportant. The game was not even close (52-17) and Dragosavich played his heart out...just like he does at every single game.
