Every Tuesday on Boston.com, questions from fans are answered in a Patriots mailbag. This week's mailbag has been posted and includes some of the following topics:

  • Will Brandon Meriweather be more of a factor on defense in 2008?

  • Is Richard Seymour primed for a bounce-back year?

  • Can Chad Jackson emerge at wide receiver?

  • Will the offensive line be reshuffled?

    1. Mike

I am of the opinion that if the Patriots had a better power running game they would be more successful. (I know 18-0). With no Corey Dillion, an injured Sammy Morris, and the inability of one Laurence Maroney to be a inside power runner I believe the offense was one dimensional which contributed to their super bowl loss. (My god it's taking me forever to get over that.)

Do the Patriots have any plans to add a Big Power back to use on short yardage and to close out games when they need a yard or two for a first down? I really think they continue to push their luck with the quarter back sneaks to get those one or two yards. Brady is way to valuable to be used on short yardage as often as he has been in the past.

    1. And the Maroney bashers won't quit. How about bad play calling and lack of adjustments as the cause for the superbowl loss. Maroney was a work horse towards the end of the season and postseason.

Your gonna look real stubid this year Jim and everyone who doubts Maroney's ability. The guy was coming off a shoulder injury to start the year and probably was a little hesitant in the early going but that faded away as the season went on. Watch this year as hes explosive and decisive.

I just love how people have selective memories.

    1. Maroney got 4.5 yards per carry in what was, apparently, a dissapointing season. he consistently got the most out of his carries, often for 4-5 yards. anyone who says he cant run inside with power needs to rewatch his run against pittsburgh in which he ran up the gut for a good 10-13 yards, pushing several steeler defenders forward the final 5 yards like the nike commercial. the guy can play, give him his carries and see what he does
