Sunday mini-camp wrap

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff June 8, 2008 04:20 PM

FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots concluded their mandatory three-day mini-camp with a walkthrough session from 1:45-2:30 p.m. The practice was initially scheduled for 2:30, but was moved up.

Players did not even bring helmets onto the field, and the pace of the practice -- held on the upper fields behind Gillette Stadium -- was slow. It was likely that the players went over an element of the playbook in the classroom earlier today, then walked through what they learned on the field.

Two nuggets of note:

  • Wes Welker took part in the walkthrough. Welker did not practice Friday and Saturday, presumably due to something health related. But whatever held Welker back doesn't appear to be anything serious. Welker lined as a receiver as the offense went over specific plays and formations, and, like his teammates, either walked or jogged as the play unfolded. Players not spotted at the walkthrough: WR Kelley Washington, CB Ellis Hobbs, G Stephen Neal, OL Oliver Ross, TE Benjamin Watson, ILB Bo Ruud, DL Jarvis Green and DL Mike Wright.

  • Adalius Thomas draws a crowd after the practice. Thomas, entering his second season in New England, held court with reporters. Despite temperatures in the 90s, he gave the conditions a thumbs-up. "Good weather for a change,” chuckled Thomas, who grew up in Alabama. Thomas also talked about how starting his Patriots career at inside linebacker in the 3-4 alignment before switching to outside linebacker late last season was helpful because he had knowledge of two spots. Thomas has been spotted mostly on the outside at this point.
