LaMont Jordan in town

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff July 26, 2008 02:05 PM

The Patriots are hosting free-agent RB LaMont Jordan on a visit at Gillette Stadium today.

The 5-foot-10, 230-pound Jordan was released by the Raiders on Friday.

Jordan, 29, has suited up for the Jets (2001-2004) and Raiders (2005-2007). He did not start with the Jets, but was elevated to that role in Oakland. The Raiders are now counting on Justin Fargas and first-round draft choice Darren McFadden, so Jordan was no longer in the club's plans.

The Patriots have Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, Heath Evans, Kyle Eckel and BenJarvus Green-Ellis at running back.
