4 players released

The New England Patriots announced the released of four players today:second-year nose tackle Steve Fifita, first-year offensive lineman Jimmy Martin, fourth-year cornerback Jeff Shoate and rookie tight end Jonathan Stupar.

All four players were longer shots to make the roster.

The Patriots now report 71 players on their active roster.

The NFL's regular-season 53-man active roster limit goes into effect at 4 p.m. EDT tomorrow.

  1. Cassel can not be the Patriots Quarter back HE STINKS He couldn't even get a touch down for the team the 3rd string can Make Cassel the 3rd string or dump him, He just hurts the Patriots

  1. I will lose all faith in Bellicheck if he keeps Cassell....I would go with O'Connell as the #2 today based on what I seen in pre-season.......Tomorrow if they pick up any one it should be quality offensive linenen.....
