FOXBOROUGH -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick held his daily press conference this morning (11:15 a.m.) and here were a few highlights:
No defensive headset used in preseason opener. Belichick said the Patriots aren't planning to use the defensive headsets in Thursday's game against the Ravens.
Playing time questions to be dissected tonight & tomorrow. Asked about the playing time of starters, Belichick said the coaching staff planned to get deeper into those questions tonight and tomorrow morning. He did mention that all players have been told to be ready to go.
Transitional day. Belichick described today as a period of transition for the team. "We go from true training camp days -- one practice, followed by a meeting, followed by another practice, grinding through -- to now really having a focus, our sights are set on Thursday night against the Ravens. Everything we do builds up to that point. We're in a little bit of a different mode than we've been in."
Welbourn in focus. On the signing of veteran offensive lineman John Welbourn, Belichick said he wasn't sure Welbourn would be ready to play Thursday night. He described Welbourn as a tough, experienced player who has lined up at both guard spots as well as right tackle. "We'll put him into the mix with everybody else," Belichick said.
