Brady discusses injury
By Matt Porter, Globe Correspondent
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady spoke on WEEI this morning, answering questions about the leg injury that kept him home while the Patriots traveled to Tampa Bay.
While he didn't give details, Brady said the current injury he has isn't the same ankle injury that dogged him in the Super Bowl. "Same side of the body, and same leg, but not the same injury," said Brady. He said it also wasn't related to an Aug. 2 bump during practice, when running back Sammy Morris accidentally kicked him during a drill.
"I spent some time this weekend getting treatment on it, and hoping that it responds quickly like it usually does," said Brady.
"The key is not to go out there and aggravate anything when I'm not ready to go," said Brady. Obviously I'd love to be out there with my teammates, but Coach made the decision that that's not the smartest thing to do right now."
The quarterback wasn't sure about his status for Friday's third preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
"I'm not sure," said Brady. "I'm trying to get treatment this week, and I'm feeling better every day. It's going to be up to Coach, what he wants to do. I think he's been coaching long enough to know that the first game in September is the most important game for us."

Pats never tell the truth...so expect the worst...I think our season is done
"Injury"
Tom Brady!!!!!!! He may not be on the field yet, but when he does debut this season the league will quickly see why HE is the regining NFL MVP!
Take as long as you want Tom. After seeing what the Pats future may be when you are no longer here is not a pleasant picture. Make sure you are 100 per cent before you ever come back because it's obvious what your value is to this team. And may you have an injury free season as well. Because after seeing two exhibition games so far, it looks scary. I'm sure you will be firing on all cylinders when the season starts. Go Pats!
Its Monday ... and he will be recieving treatment all week on this ... looks to me like he aint playing
And like he said, the most important game is Sept 7 in the opener agaisnt the Chiefs and not the Iggles in four days in the pre-season ...
Could we have a pre-season where both Brady and Peyton Manning take zero snaps in live action ?
Hopefully he's back soon. When he retires it will be like losing Orr, Bird, Williams, and Russel all at once.
why did junior sau not sign for the 2008 season we need him to make the defence excellent like our offence. i hope tom brady stays heathly and recovers from his injury thanks
I think Tom will be fine. As long as we beat the Colts I am satisfied.

I shouldn't overreact to a preseason game, nor should I put any stock in them other than Week Three (and even then just until the benches get emptied). But the Pats were Rod Rust era bad last night. I hope they're just playing possum because the team I saw couldn't beat anyone except for the Falcons, Dolphins, and maybe Chiefs / Raiders / Bears, teams like that.
I like your optimism Raj7.......go back to being a jest fan.....MY POINT...its PREseason........we'll be ready on the 7th to complete our un-finished business....my god have mercy on our opponents souls......
I suspect that Brady's injury is minor if it's even real. My guess is that the Patriots wanted to give Matt Cassell one last hard look before they release him.
One addition to the "up" list - Kevin O'Connell. Despite his opening interception, the kid once again looked sharp. Nice mobility, delivered the ball well, showed that he could take a hit. Now if our receivers and tight ends can start holding on to the ball...
This is great!
"It is what it is."
He's hurt now, might be better, might not. At least the front line and running backs can pound the ......ahh.
A poor start will be tough for these Pats to shake the 07-08 comparisons. Maybe a good thing; it will force a new, fresh identity.
He wouldn't be playing even if he wasn't injured. He has the starting job. Pre season is to see which players will start and who you will keep to fill out your reserve corps, not to worry about the final score. The down side is that some of these reserves don't look like they can add to our depth, and Cassel is headed for a cut if he doesn't get his stuff together.
I'm sure Tom will be out there Sept. 7th. In the meantime our backups need all the reps they can get. Everyone gets down on the QB's and the RB's but the O-Line is my biggest concern. Without time even Brady can look like garbage and without holes what's Maroney supposed to do? Still 3 weeks till the first game...I'm not panicking quite yet.
Brady trade him for a bag of balls.
They completely made up this injury to justify charging full price for the two home preseason games without having Brady play at all (he won't play in the next one). Its bad enough they raised the price of season tickets 50% after the crap the choke job they put on in the super bowl, but to make anything of this story is a waste of time and intelligence.
Yeh right #17. Randy Moss seems despondent without him. He's tired of these amateurs. He wants to stretch it out with TB.
To Quote Alan Iversen when he was with the 76ers, it's practice, not a real game, practice, that's all preseason is, PRACTICE!!! We lost Tank Williams on the opening kickoff of presason, do you think BB wants to lose the Golden Boy during preseason, DUH, Patriots fans would call for his head. It's Practice, not a Game, it's practice, Tom Brady will be slinging the ball to Randy, Wes, Jabs, Faulk & Mr Watson come week 1, so relax all you butt heads who think the season is over before the first kickoff. When all is said & done the Patriots will be one of two teams playing again in February. Dwayne Milne formerly of Gloucester, now of Rapid City, South Dakota.
T-Bone,
They already sold the "full price" preseason tickets months ago when the season ticket renewal forms were tallied up.
I don't think BB could care less if the fans skip the Brady-less preseason games or not, and he is in charge of the football operations.
That being said, they should arrest the NFL owners for fraud to require the season ticket holders to pay full price to see these "games".
Hey Dwayne, how right you are. As a fellow Massachusetts ex-patriot and Pats season ticket holder, I can say that I have a lot of confidence that the front office has got a plan. They know how to work the plan and we should have a little faith. Dwayne, how about some tortillas...Jeff from Randolph, now in Hot Springs, SD
Hey Jeff, what's up my friend? I guess it takes leaving Massachusetts to see what's really going on. BB & Scotty P know what they are doing, why put all your starters at risk during the pre-season (Practice) and then sacrifice the whole year for players who already know their JOB, and are in all effects, game ready. How many teams have lost crucial starters already this pre-season & past years because the coaches MADE them play during PRACTICE! The season starts in Septemer and Tom Brady, Rodney (i have old legs) Harrison, Mike Vabrel, Matt Light and all the other starters will be in there doing what they do best, WIN! 16 games + playoffs makes for a long season, add too that, all the work they are putting in on the paractice field, why risk injury & burn out over 4 meaningless games, stop worrying Patriots Nation, we will be there in February. Thanks for your response Jeff, look forward too seeeing you soon. Dwayne.
I hate to be a jerk..........but OH MY GOD!! Please do all of us a big favor. If you can't even spell offense and defense(not to mentionJunior Seau!!!!), all of us can live without your comments!!! I mean I'm not a spelling whiz but jeez, if I was that bad I would buy a dictionary.......and fast!!!!
If the reason behind it is fear of losing crucial starters, then why hide behind the injury in the first place. Why even bring it up? Look at San Diego, LT doesn't play preseason and nobody has a problem with him for it. Just say that you don't want to risk Brady in the preseason, you're not fooling anybody.

Off topic for a second, South Dakota peeps, hope you get to do some hiking at Harney Peak and the Black Hills. Great stuff.
Back to the Pats, maybe I over-reacted with my post earlier, but I at least wanted to see something that would indicate the team is moving towards being ready for the real thing. But I saw next to nothing from anyone other than Welker and O'Connell on one drive. I did think Mayo played decently for the most part. Longtime Pats fan in VA, are you anywhere near Murphy's Pub? That's the place to go for the games.
You will not beat the colts....no way no how...
And by the way, keith baillie, please learn how to spell.
I'm starting to wonder if we're going to any linebackers like Pierre Woods draw blocking assignments on the offensive line. They looked terrible.
SD people. off topic for a second, hope you get to hike Harney Peak and other Black Hills frequently, some great stuff out there. Never made it Lead and Deadwood because the 2002 Fire closed both down.
Back on topic, I may have over-reacted with my post yesterday but at the same time, I wanted to see at least some visible game signs that would indicate progress towards being ready for the real deal. I saw very little of that, if any, on Sunday night. I did think Mayo played decently, yeah he got knocked off by blockers a couple times but that's going to happen to everyone in the NFL. Long time Pats fan in VA, are you close enough to get to Murphy's Pub for the games? That's where all the maniacs in NOVA/DC/MD are.
Hey Jeff from VA, thanks for the comments, yes get too Deadwood & Lead often, and have climbed Harney Peak, but it's not the Paradise of Gloucester, I really miss the ocean, but have a 10 year old son here so I stay. In regards to BB & Scotty P not telling the truth about Tom Brady's injury, or other players for that matter, they withhold info during the season, why would they change protocol during preseason! Since this blog started at least 3 starters from other teams have suffered season ending injuries. I'm sure you are smart T-Bone, but 3 Super Bowl Championships & 4 overall appearences tells me that BB & Scotty P are a tad bit smarter than you in regards too running the TOP team in the NFL since 2001. As I have stated, when February comes around the Patriots will be 1 of 2 teams playing for the Championship. Look guys, didnt even need spell check, lol.
