Insightful reading
From time to time, the question will be asked: What writers or websites do you visit to read or learn about football?
There are a lot of great football writers around the country, and thanks to the web, there is an easy connection to find them.
Mike Lombardi's "Lombardi on Football" blog was the most recent addition to my bookmarks. Having worked 23 years in the NFL in various personnel departments, Lombardi offers a different perspective than most -- and he doesn't hold back his opinions. For example, I thought his analysis of the Jets' acquisition of Brett Favre was some of the most insightful reading on the topic.
When the Patriots signed former Raiders RB LaMont Jordan as a free agent on July 26, I emailed Lombardi to learn more about Jordan. When Lombardi worked for the Raiders, he was primarily responsible for the team signing Jordan as a free agent, and I thought he added more insight into the Patriots' move here on Boston.com.
With this in mind, one suggestion for those looking for more insight into the game is to check out Lombardi's work at the website he'll be officially launching Monday -- The National Football Post. One of Lombardi's partners in creating the site is former Packers executive Andrew Brandt, who Bostonians might remember from his time working as an agent for Bob Woolf Associates (1996-99). Brandt, the president of the site, will be writing on the business, operational and legal side of the game.
In an email exchange, Lombardi noted that the goal of the site is to provide incisive and in-depth analysis and opinion on the inner-workings of the NFL, from a variety of perspectives (e.g. former team executives, agents, players).
For the fan looking for more understanding of the game, The National Football Post comes with a high recommendation.
