Junior Seau on XX sports radio
Linebacker Junior Seau was a guest on XX Sports Radio in San Diego and addressed a few questions about his football future.
Most notable in his interview on the "Scott and BR Show" was that Seau said if he returns to the NFL, it will only be with the Patriots.
"If there is a situation that comes up, I will definitely look at it, but it has to be something with the Pats," he said in the interview. "There is no sense in me going to another locker room when I have my guys in that locker room that are going back and hopefully trying to finish what we started."
Seau, who had surgery to repair his rotator cuff earlier this offseason, was asked if he's spoken with Bill Belichick at all.
"Yeah, we talked, but again there is nothing to report," Seau responded. "Obviously, I have to be healthy enough to get in there and perform at a high level and right now I'm not ready."
At the end of the interview, Seau also pointed out that even if he could return, the Patriots would have to have a need for his services.
Seau described that he is currently living a "peaceful" and "semi-retirement" type of life, which includes a lot of surfing and focusing on business ventures.

Seau ... great player, great man ... I hope he does wind up coming back to us later this season and getting his ring.
You have to love a guy like this. Some will blame the defense but anyone who understands football will know they played at a very high level in the SB - unfotunately the NY Defense was at their very best and captialized on an apocolypse. It pains me more for Seau, who has left his heart on the table in games more times than he can count, than it does for every Hardcore Pats fan combined who tried to defend themself many times over the course of the season (to bigots). Bottom line - I would love to see him back on the team this year but not as a loss to the team. He would be, and is, great - he would be reason to fight to win every game and he is just amazing as a leader.
I don't know how much he has left in his tank, or what he could provide, but I like his on field, and locker room attitude and would like to see him for one more year in a Pats uni. I want this guy to win a ring. He deserves one.
My hunch is that he'll be coming back at the end of preseason, unless every linebacker on the roster plays lights out and there is no room for him, which seems unlikely.
I can't imagine going the year with Bruschi as the only veteran inside linebacker unless they're going to keep Vrabel and/or Thomas inside, which also seems unlikely.
All of the above comments abour JS are right on the mark. JS is a sensation to watch and an asset to the Patriots and the NFL. I hope the Pats find room for this guy!
Go Pats!
Williams is tanked, so let's say hello to Seau!
It is interesting he said he played most of the season 'with one shoulder'.
Id love see him AND Lynch wearing the colours, but wonder how Seau can fit into the roster alongside some of the young linebackers that BB has brought in.
"Id love see him AND Lynch wearing the colours"
Why not ask BB to bring back LT as well? We are trying to get younger and faster so all you folks with a low football IQ that keep bring up Lynch, just stop right now.
Just heard that Brandon Moore might get some interest from the Pats....
What do you guys think? he was a Inside backer of 49ers
Harrison --Lynch --Junior--Bruschi--can't be all that bad..Some serious football would be played and hard hitting smash mouth football...
Sean from Montreal:
Some of us "folks with low football IQ" have played more ball in our lives then you have watched. I played linebacker in a 3-4 in high school, and a big safety in a 4-3 in college (although I didnt start in college but that is besides the point!)
Adding Seau to the linebacker group does not hinder the progress of the younger players at all. Seau is not capable of playing alot of reps anymore, nor, in my opinion is Bruschi. But if you rotate all three (including Mayo in this group) you keep the vets from getting tired at the end of the season (more importantly the playoffs) and you keep the rookie from hitting the wall as badly. Plus you have a guy lke Mayo learning from two of the most experienced ILB's in the game. Yeah, that "HIGH FOOTBALL IQ" of yours is really showing.....especially up there in Montreal, which we all know is a linebacker factory......HAHA not.
Adding Lynch wouldn't cost alot, and would backup Harrison when he goes down with an injury (like he does alomst every year). I do agree that we dont want to take any time away from Merriweather (spelling?) as this kid is still learning, and getting better every game.
With Hobson not being able too cut it at inside linebacker, a nice trio of Junior, Mayo and Tedy would be very nice on the inside. Adalius Thomas could spell on occasion in a pinch with the emergance of all the young kids on the outside without sacrificing the depth at LB. We still need protection in regards to the loss of Tank Williams, and by going after John Lynch as a hybrid, the defense could rest, in a manner of speaking. Yes adding age in both Junior & Lynch is tough, but with the influx of youth, this could really be a nasty defense. And if not Lynch, why not Ty Law, Just a thought!!!
Jr. and the coaches know that the Pats have had various injuries, some season-ending, to their linebackers every year now for quite some time. That's what's holding the door open.
too old.
