Every Tuesday on Boston.com, questions from Patriots fans are answered as part of a weekly mailbag. This week's mailbag has been posted and includes some of the following topics:

  • A closer look at the team's preseason performance and what it means.

  • If Tom Brady doesn't play in the preseason, how does that affect the timing of the offense?

  • Has Matt Cassel done enough to earn a roster spot.

  • Looking at where some individual players might fit on the roster, such as RB LaMont Jordan.

  • If the Patriots keep just two tight ends on their final roster, what they might do for a third option when needed.

    1. "Don't tell me this team is 12-4 with Brady and 4-12 without him".

I think Pats fans should get used to the idea that this is exactly how it is. Without Brady, who might be the greatest quarterback ever considering his success and who he plays with and who he is coached by, Pats are below average team with a below average coach. Belichick’s record is 42-58 without Brady and 100-24 with Brady. The biggest losses that the Pats ever had, (the Colts meltdown, the last super bowl) had to do with Pats defense falling apart in the 4th quarter. Don’t need to be much of a genius to realize that Pats owe all of their success to Brady and it will all go away when Brady retires or becomes less effective.

    1. Your are wrong. You make the argument using BB's whole career when he coached the Browns and had to work with an untalented roster that he built into playoff team before the franchise was sold and moved and also the Pats after pete carrol had destroyed the roster. Not to diminish what Brady means to the team but BB has been able to build the roster up to a great team. Look at his draft selections and tell me who is below avg. Which player on the Defensive line is below average: Warren, Sey, or Wilfork. Which LB is below avg: the 3 who have all won championships and been to probowls Bru, AD, Vrabel or the guy who was the 10th pick in this years Draft. Which DB is below avg. Which receiver is below avg: Moss or Welker. I could go on and on but your a troll so it doesn't matter what I say.

I think that the Pats have a top 5 Def and with just a decent QB a top 10 offense with Brady they are an elite offense.

    1. You hit the nail on the head Steven. Hope you're a Jets fan and have been caught up in the Favre hype. Obviously you aren't close to being a genius but, it's got to be said, Belichick is A LOT closer to it than any other NFL coach. Any idea who the safeties were during the 4th quarter of the Colts game? You can add but can you see?
