Nuggets from Gillette

FOXBOROUGH -- Patriots players are back to work today at Gillette Stadium and media members had access in the locker room this morning (10:45-11:30 a.m.).

The locker room always has a much different look today, the day after the roster is cut down to 53 players. Gone are the temporary blue lockers in the middle of the room which were occupied by the rookies, as those youngsters who made the club now have permanent lockers around the perimeter of the room.

A few nuggets to pass along:

  • Jerod Mayo now occupies the corner locker that was Junior Seau's the last two years. Throughout the offseason and training camp/preseason, that locker had been empty.

  • Rookie free agent Gary Guyton, who wore No. 48 in the preseason, is now No. 59.

  • Several players said they were unaware of which players were cut Saturday, with Rodney Harrison and Jonathan Wilhite expressing surprise regarding Fernando Bryant.

  • Receiver Randy Moss spent some time chatting with media members, and we'll plan on passing along his comments shortly.

  • Quarterback Tom Brady walked through the room, coming from the weight room, but did not speak with reporters.

    1. I see that Guyton changed his jersey # to 59, do you see Ventrone and Slater switching jersey #s? 85 and 87 are available as WR #'s and there are plenty of DB jersey #'s available for Slater. Unless of course the Patriots will continue to list Slater as a WR and Ventrone as a S, then they can keep their current #s.
