Report: Patriots claim TE Pociask from Jets

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff August 31, 2008 04:05 PM

The Patriots have claimed tight end Jason Pociask off waivers from the Jets, according to Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News.

The Patriots have Benjamin Watson, David Thomas and Stephen Spach on the roster at tight end. Watson has recently been held out practice due to an undisclosed injury.

Pociask was a fifth-round draft choice of the Jets in 2006 out of Wisconsin.

  1. This could mean that Spach will soon be gone. In previous years, BB and SP have carried 3 TE's, not 4.

  1. wow was i wrong...we make two low profile pick-ups and it looks as if our secondary is in huge trouble. I HOPE bill is thinking clearly

  1. Or maybe It's just a payback move.

  1. You guys need to go relax. People do remember that Ty Law, Asante, Eugene Wilson, Gay etc all played significant time or started as rookies. You play to win the game. . .

  1. Bill, NFL teams do not make "payback moves", that is ridiculous and short sighted... with only 53 plays it can not happen.

Pociask was the most surprising cut by the Jets, he is that true blocking TE we didn't have in Watson and Thomas. I agree that Spach might soon be gone and end up on practice squad.

T-Wheat played better than Bryant, so he is still around and going to play.... how is that a bad thing?

  1. This picking up of Jets players and vice versa is really getting old. Does anyone think this guy will really stick? Does this guy really have more potential to help than Jackson.

  1. Wow, one catch in two pro seasons. 12 catches in 41 college games. This guy is going to be the next Antonio Gates! Just kidding. This guy better block like Kyle Brady in his prime though.

  1. yea when they played as rookies they didnt get sliced, and diced like the secondary we have now.we need corners who are great.not rookies, and 3rd year man hobbs.

  1. Pociask from jets wow? I don't no what 2 say, numbers speak for they self, I'm officially confused. I'm shocked they didn't sign matt 2 the practice squad, I'm sorry but cassell did not get us in the endzone once in 4 games and looked horrible. Unless welker catches 150- and his career over in 2-3yrs and moss catches 100, Look 4 us 2 struggle on offense, I just can't see C.J. Jones and washington gettin any reps on the regular offense, hope i'm wrong, I'm all 4 gettin younger on defense, but our secondary is a major concern, maybe some of these young guys will surprise.

  1. Thoughts? Ha ha ha.

I repeat. A secondary will look really good when a line does its job. Some of you guys are pretty funny. Look how many other teams have two if not one shut down corner? Not many.

Asante was never a shut down corner. Will this team miss him? Yes. But do the Patriots have more speed and intelligence at the corner and safety position. Yes. It looks like it. We'll just have to watch and find out how it works out. Hobbs is not responsible for losing the Super Bowl. It is a Team game.

  1. Naw, not Wilson. The Patriots normally carry 4 Safeties, that would be Harrison, James Sanders, Meriweather, and (after next week) Lynch. Who would you cut to make room for Wilson?

  1. I just wanted to throw a crazy idea and see what you guys think. Are the Pats "suprising" player cuts a sign of some kind of trade? Like trading to get Lito Sheppard from the Eagles? If so, they would need the cap space to redo his contract. I would rather have kept Asante Samuel, but oh well. Again, this is highly unlikely, but i just wanted to throw it out there. What do you guys think?

  1. Malcolm--
"Look for us to struggle on offense." WHAT???? Why because we dont have Jackson and Gutierez? Did you watch this team last year? Our offense was ok.

  1. I think this might be a move with regard to game planning against the Chiefs. From cutting Chad Jackson to signing an extra TE, it seems like they wanna run the ball against the Chiefs. Same idea for John Lynch, who will be back later.

  1. I see no one has had their Chocolate Chip. Expect more moves, and maybe a re-signing or two. Could the Pats get a player from the team I love to hate, the Buccaneers? We shall see and minus the chips too.
