Spann not in the mix

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff August 30, 2008 04:42 PM

The Patriots are in the process of finalizing their 53-man roster, and safety Antwain Spann is not in the mix, according to a league source.

Spann still has practice squad eligibility, and could return to the Patriots if he clears waivers.

Spann had made a fairly strong case for a spot, and with Brandon Meriweather's injury situation, one line of thinking is that Spann might sneak on the 53-man roster. He also made a nice tackle on Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw on Thursday night, filling a gap to stop him 1 yard shy of a first down on third and 6.

  1. Ugh, I wish the list would hurry up and come out already!!

Cassel better not be on that list, or we'll know where that Ram's walk through tape is.
