Special delivery

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff August 27, 2008 11:29 AM

Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff was hard at work this morning, with Atlanta preparing for its preseason finale at Baltimore tomorrow night, when he was quickly stopped in his tracks after opening an important package that had been delivered to his office.

In the package, which certainly had to be insured, was the 16-0 perfect season/AFC championship ring presented to players and coaches earlier this month.

Dimitroff, the Patriots' former director of college scouting, paused for a moment after seeing the ring.

"A class move from a class organization," he said.

  1. Mike

I just wanted to throw this out there and see what you and everyone else thought. I just watched some of last years games and it seems to me that the PATS need to get Maroney in open space more. Everytime Brady passed to Maroney he was able to get down field and make people miss.Maroney looks really good coming out of the back field. Just maybe Bill might throw some more plays in that gets Maroney the ball in the open field this year.

  1. BigBoy, I agree. Maroney doesn't have the hands that Faulk or Jordan do, but it seems like he could be a lethal downfield threat in the right situations.

  1. Look for Ellis Hobbs to really stand out this year. I like what I've seen in the pre-season from him.

  1. A nice personnel move. But you know what doesn't show much class? Adding the words: "Perfect Season". No one, especially not members of the 2007-08 Patriots will ever consider a season that ended with a humiliating loss a "Perfect Season."

  1. Conversley, he is just awful at finding the pocket and getting through it. I really like Maroney once he crosses the line of scrimmage, and I think he tries really hard. But he never looks comfortable at the point of attack.

All the more reason I am pissed that the Pats didn't draft at the O line (i.e. Albert). I like Jerod Mayo and think he looks like a very positive addition. The problem is that O line protects the teams most valuable asset.

  1. Thanks Big Boy, I was thinking that I was the only one noticing that about Maroney. I saw that last fall and was urging BB through my TV for them to use Maroney as a receiver out of the backfield more. He reminds me of Faulk in that way.

Are you ready for some 'real' football? I am.
