TE Tyson DeVree re-signed
The Patriots filled their open roster spot, created by the release of veteran TE Marcus Pollard, by re-signing rookie TE Tyson DeVree.
A bit from the team's press release:
DeVree, 23, was originally signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent on May 5, 2008 and was released by the Patriots on June 11, 2008. He finished his college career at the University of Colorado (2006-07) after transferring from Western Michigan (2003-04) after his sophomore year. The 6-foot-6, 245-pound tight end played in 44 collegiate games, making 96 receptions for 987 yards and 15 receiving touchdowns.

I thought pollard was haveing a good camp witch surprised me when he got cut.but then the pats turn around and sign a te they cut loose earlier really dosent make sence.they need help in other areas.Like O-line.how about McKinney?
Darryl are you that thick?
Pollard wasnt going to make the team so they did the right thing by a veteran and cut him lose so that he could try to hook on elsewhere.
DeVree is not going to make the team either. They just need another TE to get through until the first round of cuts.
DeVree is a camp body.
my guess...they needed to accommodate Lynch's contract. Just the usual numbers games.
Yeah, Thomas did not exactly cover himself in glory last Sunday...

My guess...they needed to honor Lynch's deal. Pollard's release facilitates that.
I would say DeVree makes Practice Squad
along with Ruud, Green Ellis (i hope), and some other camp bodies
DeVree actually has the skill set to create some serious mismatches in the NFL, kind of like Greg Olsen. He's 6'6" and is pretty fast. My dad was one of his teachers at Hudsonville High School in Michigan and DeVree torched my Crimson Tide in the Independence Bowl last season. I hope he makes it!
