Tom Brady on WEEI

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff August 25, 2008 07:35 AM

On his weekly appearance on the "Dennis & Callahan" show on WEEI Monday morning, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said he expects to be ready for the team's regular-season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs Sept. 7.

"I wish I could have shown more in the preseason, but it's going to have to wait, hopefully Thursday night [in the preseason finale against the Giants], then we'll see what happens when we play KC," Brady said.

Asked by co-host Gerry Callahan how his sore right foot feels on a scale of 1 to 10, Brady laughed before saying: "I'm feeling very good. I'm feeling very good. Like I said, I'm hoping ... I was wishing I could play last week and it didn't happen. It will be the same thing this week. I'm hoping I'm out there and if I'm not, I'm not. I'm trying to get better as fast as I can, and in the ways I know how; it's been making improvements, there is no doubt about it."

Here is the link to listen to the full interview on WEEI.com.

Update (4:03 p.m.): At the time media members were present at today's practive, Brady stretched, ran through a bag drill (zig-zagging between bags, and then keeping his feet moving over the bags while catching a series of footballs fired in his direction), and dropped back lightly while throwing to receivers and backs without a rush.

  1. Ellis Hobbs should keep his comments to himself. For me it only brings up bad memories likehis futill attempt to cover Buress in the corner of the end zone where he caught the touchdown pass that gave the Giants the Super Bowl. Trade him.

  1. Hey Tom, I'm looking forward to see you on the field! Get well soon!

  1. hey Bud - that's "futile", not "futill." also, Hobbs was playing with a torn labrum and a hernia in the super bowl.

  1. Hey Bud,

Post was way off topic...but I'll rebut your comment...

You mean the Ellis Hobbs that had a hernia and was left on an island by himself with Burress. You can blame Hobbs all you want, that was a poor defensive call.

  1. Preseason is preseason. It's just a conditioning period. Any one that thinks this is the Patriots we are going to see this season is sadly mistaken. I'm just looking forward to another great season and I'm hoping the boys can pull it off this year.
    Go Pats and stay healthy!!!

  1. What I can't figure out is why Ellis Hobbs is running back kickoffs in meaningless pre-season games. He's coming off double surgeries, there is a shortage at the conerback spot. Welker too, why. We know what they can do on special teams. It is clearly the most dangerous time during the game. They don't call it the bomb squad for nothing. The genius won't let Brady step foot on the field, but this is ok. I'm not trying to compare the worth of Hobbs and Welker, to Brady, but it does give you pause to wonder!!!

  1. Hey Bud! Hobbs was suppose to have safety help on that play. It wasn't his fault he was on an island. Someone blew an assignment. This has been readily acknowledged by the coaching staff. Where have you been? Besides, what's this go to do with Brady?

  1. Who else is just looking forward to watching some hard fought games over buffalo wings?

  1. I think the pre-season is a waste of time. I think the NFL should consider a 2 game pre-season that is closed to the public. Too many players are getting hurt with season ending injuries. By taking away the public presure to perform, coaches will be able to just evaluate staff and get ready for the real season.

  1. JUST WHAT IS GOING ON WITH OUR INTERIOR OFFENSIVE LINE?

  1. I don't care how long Tom Brady stays out. The Pats offensive line is old and slow. They are going to go 8 wins 8 loses and miss the playoffs. CS Logan Jan Roderick

  1. not old but definitely slow... the line of scrimmage, on both sides of the ball, has been totally inadequate, starters included.

hobbs was hurt and on an island, but he got torched a LOT of times last season. I don't think he's a #1 corner, really. We'll see though.

RE: Tom: I'm sure he'll be fine and cure a lot of ills. No way we go 8-8.

  1. THe Pats will do fine . Special teams does need some work though . As for the clown trashing Hobbs , Hobbs is a great corner and battled through injuries all last season and kept it to himself why ? So he could continue to compete for us . My hat is off to him and he did everything he could throught the end of last season to stay on the field and I commend him. He was very humble about his superbowl performance acknowledging that his injuries were no excuess but he played with it for that he deserves respect. I think the pats will have a successful season and go 12-4 at worst .. common guys they are the pats for a reason . Just ask Fitzy !

  1. The Pats will always be competiitve as long as Belichick and Pioli are on the payroll and the injury list isn't too long.

  1. I am very, very concerned about the offensive line. I've been a Pats fan since 1967, so I've see A LOT over 40+ years. I've seen some appalling offensive lines that nearly got our QB's killed (remember what happened to Jim Plunkett?). I do understand and appreciate the work Dante Scarnecchia has done and he's one of the best coaches of offensive linemen in football. But, do we have the people to execute? I fear the Giants have exposed us and everyone is going to copy what they did. I'll bet we will see a lot of it. The running game has been spotty and the pass protection even worse. I realize we are using vanilla packages in the pre-season, and that the emphasis is on showing who has ability and who does not. So far, it seems we don't have ability. We should have drafted a lineman.

  1. Go Pat Perfect again. Prove 'em all wrong again. I currently live in PA and am sick to death of "spector"tators that have nothing but hate speech for the Pats. Use this negative energy and stick it up all their collective poopers!
