Video: What to watch vs. Ravens
The Boston Globe's Mike Reiss and Chris Gasper each detail three key areas to watch tonight as the Patriots open exhibition play by hosting the Baltimore Ravens at Gillette Stadium.

Mike,
Was Chad Jackson hurt by Tom Brady not participating in most of the off-season program at Gillette Stadium this year? Chad had hamstring problems for training camp in 2006 (rookie season) and was recovering from the ACL injury during the 2007 off-season. Now he is finally healthy for training camp, but didn't get a chance to hang out with Brady like Moss and Welker got to last year. Would this slow the chemistry between them? I would think it would because the Patriot's playbook isn't run X pattern. It's based on adjustments to what the defense does. So ideally, you want your WR to read/see the defense just as the QB does. And I believe that is usually what Brady is telling the WRs when he pulls them aside.
Almost everytime you post a video you get two or three comments from people asking you for a transcipt or a text version as well. Many of us are at work and cannot watch these videos.
This blog has been my first stop for Pats info, but these videos are making it really tough to enjoy. I can understand why you do the videos, but please try to understand why they make it hard for a lot of people to enjoy your blog.
Thank you
just wondering is anyone going to be blogging this game or any websites doing a live play by play (i.e. espn) etc.? As a fan living in MO the only game i will possibly get is one on NFL network (next week against the bucs) or your obligatory chiefs game, thank for the info.
JG, I agree that it would have been beneficial for Jackson to have worked with Brady more in the offseason. At the same time, this will be Jackson's third season. It should be essentially like repeating the same class in the Fall that you took in the Spring. If he doesn't have it down by the time they play the Chargers this year it just ain't gonna' happen my friend!
Sonny_Corlione, I see what you are saying. I don't disagree that he should know the playbook thoroughly, but I feel like the receiver also has to know his QB just as well. If the routes were simple (like Madden) then I'd say it shouldn't matter that much because if they both know the play, then Chad is going to be doing only one thing no matter what. But the Patriot's offense (and I'm sure others around the league) aren't that simple. There are often options on the route that are dependent on the coverage, what the defender does, etc. Both the QB and the WR have to make the same reads. I imagine that confidence has to be built between the QB and WR. I would think the more time you can spend with the QB understanding what he sees, the better. I assume the off-season program isn't just lifting weights. They likely have film time/studying going on as well. So I wonder, does that hurt Chad Jackson? I don't mean to say it should be an excuse for a poor season, but may be a reason for his not having a stand-out camp so far. That rapport with Tom Brady may take more practices and games to build.
I agree with the comment above that I follow your blog at work and can't watch video. A transcript would be very helpful.
Hey Meister.....As a NE sports fan living in NC I have found channelsurfing.net to be of great assistance in following my original home teams. You can stream the audio from tonight's game on that site. Word to the wise, if it doesn't work the first time...try it a couple more times before you give up. Enjoy!
The most important issue is capability of the offensive line. Without a productive line, it doesn't matter who the quarterback is or who the running backs are!
