Welker shaken up

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff August 22, 2008 08:06 PM

Patriots receiver Wes Welker was shaken up while fielding a punt return during the first quarter.

Welker is being looked at by members of the team's training staff on the sideline. At one point, he slammed his helmet on the turf in frustration.

We'll see if Welker returns tonight. When the Patriots went to their 3-receiver package on offense -- in which Welker is usually a key member -- Kelley Washington took his place.

  1. Why is Welker fielding punts especially in an exhibition game. Last season he was the NFL leader in most receptions and our best receiver late in the season.
Is anyone on the coaching staff using their brains.

  1. Yeah, I'm in California, and lost mind when I heard this. There better be a real update to how he's doing. Bill put him in and risked his health on a pre-season game, he better pony up and give a real update. Bill %$#@ up, big time. You just don't do that to your number two player. Hell, they should have sat all the starters. It's preseason. We don't need our most valuable player, behind Brady, going down for a meaningless game. He's too valuable. I'm so pissed.

  1. Got ahold of yourselves you idiots. Pats will suck all year if they don't play their starters all preseason. Honestly, Welker should have take a fair catch on the play but tried to make a few yards on a punt that was 2 yards from sideline. It was really his poor decision.

We need to be more concerned with OL which hasn't gotten it together yet. I know Pats don't want to "show anything" but they had better put in some better effort that what we've seen thus far.
